Dont we still need to spend 20ish million to reach the minimum? Also we need at least 13 players. Anyone know what the date is for either of those?

The plan is to max out Joel Freeland before the 10th... problem solved!

90% of cap, so 62M ish. We're at ~40M, so we must add about 22M at least

Rasta could fill this roster 10 times over with guys I've never heard of...sign Rasta as our Euro scout and we'll have a never ending supply of roster pieces

If the Blazers were to end up $22M short, they'd have to divide $22M among the players on the roster and pay it to them.

The players won't mind.

Ah...thats it? No biggie

I suggested they could take Joe Johnson's $24M expiring contract from the Nets. You get the cap space back in a year as if you signed nobody. And you get a SG/SF who can get his own shot and defend. You probably can get the Nets to cough up something else to sweeten the deal, since you're doing them a huge favor.

My question is, is there a date it needs to be at 90%? Is it before the season? Is it before the end of NEXT season?

Yes and I doubt we will have this problem anyway. I believe Olshey intends on spending all the cap

I like the idea except he might help us win a game or three Taurean Green style.

This is a very real possibility

I could get behind that. Doesn't BOS have nearly every one of their picks though?

Are there any other luxury tax teams who need to get rid of albatross contracts?

Everything is basically end of season.

When it looked like Noah would win DPOY and Gibson 6MOY two seasons ago, the Bulls scrambled to dump salary late in the season so they'd remain a hair under.

They got Utah to take on Eric Murphy's contract; called in some favor they earned in some previous deal.

Golden State which is why they are trying to shop Lee

It's not an albatross contract, IMO. Johnson is still a really good player. It's just that they've got $66M tied up in 3 players.

The reason I don't like this option is I don't think Lee can play very well. He's been hurt a lot and only played 18 MPG when he did play for GSW. The benefit of Johnson is that he can play and take some pressure off of Dame (make them pay for double/triple teaming him), and he's an ironman (35 MPG last season).

Joe Johnson would be an excellent mentor for CJ and Crabbe..I think this would be a good fit. He's also said to be a high character, locker room guy

What if we got Ronde Hollis-Jefferson back to absorb JJ's contract? He seems kind of redundant now, but we need more young talent.
