I sold a home a few years ago. I had a lot of work done to remodel it so I could get top dollar. Most of the workers had spanish accents. They were the best workers I've ever seen One Latino was the boss of a crew that included a couple of American Caucasians. They really liked their boss. Their work was almost but not quite as good as the Latinos.

It's hard to find others who will do the type of work that Latinos will do and do it as good.

We had a yard care service in our last house and that crew was excellent. The crew we've got now is also Latino but not quite as good as the other crew. The other crew serviced the Aloha area but not Lake Oswego or we would have kept them in a heart beat.

Interviewed a maid service and that lady who was the boss was a Latina. She looked like she knew her profession and wanted a reasonable rate but my wife wants to do the housecleaning herself. Now, she's just to old to do all that work by herself so I'm going to look for another maid service. I'll bet that all the companies have either East Europeans or Latinos to do the work We keep our house pretty clean so there's not a whole lot for such a service to do.

The other day we bought 3 units of bark dust. She got her girlfriend and her girlfriend's husband to help spread it but she did at least half the work. Now, she's been sore for a week. Gotta get a Latino crew to do that hot dirty work.

All the Latinos I've encountered have been hard working and extremely polite. The guys that remodeled my last home used to call me Senior. My wife always offers some refreshment, it's a Korean custom, also a custom of the deep South from where my family comes from. They were so appreciated of a cold drink of water or a cold soft drink. When did a special job, even now, she gives them lunch money. Very appreciative people.
My 89 year old grandmother mows and weedwhacks her own yard. In the 80s when my grandfather was retired she worked in the laundry at the Shiloh Inn in Salmon Creek to make extra money.

Being pro Latino because they work as hard as prior generations of Americans says more about Americans than it does Latinos.

One more thing. Oregon and Las Vegas might as well be on different planets for this discussion. In Las Vegas they don't have Spanish accents they speak Spanish.
Show me a whole area of Portland that is Hispanic. Show me miles and miles of businesses that have no English on the outside.

It isn't even close to the same thing.

Winco didn't take credit or debit for years but they still had card readers in the stores. Care to guess why?

Winco has accepted debit cards since rebranding from Waremart and Cub Foods to Winco in 1999. They have never accepted credit cards.

Yeah I can't find any dates but all I had was a debit card in the early to mid 90s and remember having to take cash out of the atm in the store a couple of times.

Still don't have any credit cards, the wife does to keep her credit score higher.

That's BS. You can not get a Drivers License or any welfare in this state if you are an illegal. They do ask and require proof.

Wrong. They ask for a green card, which is like a school ID.

Yet, I never see it.
I used to work at a grocery store in Gresham (granted, that was over a decade ago) But, I can assure you that MANY people use EBT's. Come out to the Winco near Gateway, or off 122nd and San Rafael, or in Gresham.

It's true I guess. I located a Winco in Ventura Cal hoping for a better alternative to the Ralph's and Vons in Oxnard. Winco was only a little farther on down street from Vons, although it was actually in Ventura, not Oxnard. So I went in with my tote bag and gathered up my small load of stuff I needed. I use my own bag because I need to get it all the way down the docks to the boat.
Need a strong bag, not just one that will make it 1/2 way. Anyway, I had the bag full, and unloaded it on the checkout conveyor. Clerk checks me out and I stick my Visa CC in the card reader.
No go! The clerk asked me if it is a debit card? No, CC! We don't take CC's! I tell the other clerk, who is loading my bag, better unload the bag, I can't pay. He does, I leave.

Winco says (online) that they take Debit Card but not CC to speed up the Check out process. That is bullshit, the process is the same.

I've paid by debit at Winco 25 years ago. Had a big problem with them at that time 'cause I got double billed.

Edit: Beaverton, Oregon

We used to tell customers, when I worked there over a decade ago, it lowers the prices groceries are by not having to put the merchant rates into the merchandise. That's one of the ways Winco keeps things cheaper than the Safeways and Fred Meyers of the world.

Also, kinda your own fault. They have no credit card signs posted all over the entrance.

All signs in California are only in Spanish.

Winco does it because they hate white people. White people use credit cards to earn mileage and other fun free things. Minorities can't afford credit cards. Winco wants to take away fun things from white people.

Stopped for lunch at my favorite Mexican restaraunt. They make the best fresh salsa. It is a small family owned restaraunt.

A very pleasant young Mexican lady waited on me, probably the owner's daughter.

To make her feel more comfortable, I ordered in my best dockside Spanish. She just stood there with her mouth wide open. The silence lasted too long so I repeated my order. Still no response from the young lady.

Then it dawned on me, the Mexican waitress could not speak Spanish. So I said #8 please. And all was well again.

Things are very different in Idaho.

My wife had a green card. She had to jump through hoops to get it. Of course that was 40 years ago so, maybe it's changed since then.

Side note: When she got her U.S. citizenship, it was a big deal. I remember the people in the court room from all over the world who were so happy that day. We've kept her flag and copy of the Constitution all these years.

Q: Does WinCo Foods accept credit cards?
A: Due to the transaction rates associated with credit card processing, our employee-owned stores do not accept credit cards. We accept debit cards that require a pin number.

They accepted credit cards back when I had my problem with the debit card I used at Winco. I remember as the clerk walked me through the process of using my debit card that he gave me the option of using a credit card. So, it hasn't been always that they haven't accepted credit cards.

Many years ago I attended a citizenship ceremony. We sat in the jury box, possibly as witnesses, but not sure about that. What I do remember is:

The judge asked very difficult questions. Both about our gov. system and our history.

The joy after the ceremony was contagious. It was a very happy and emotional time for our new citizens.
