Listening to his press conference on WFAN during Francesa's show. He says he wouldn't be necessarily looking for an everyday bat. The bench players they have need to play more so that they can get better. This guy either has no clue or he's a Wilpon puppet.
 
It does look like he's just holding the company line but he has pulled off a couple of pretty good deals to his credit.
Wheeler for Beltran - Syndegaard and d'Arnaud for R.A. Dickey.

I know Wheeler went down with surgery last year but he has shown good stuff and before he got hurt, he was in the top 5 or 10 ML SP having the highest AVG MPH fastball - in the mid-90s......that was the average speed for his fastball.

And in the Dickey trade, he got another young SP who has already demonstrated to be dominant on occasion while striking out ALOT of batters in this his first season in the bigs. Travis d'Arnaud (C) has had problems staying healthy but he has shown to be a pretty good hitter at the catcher's position at every level.

Mets weren't going to re-sign Dickey who had just won the Cy Young and they were also committed to making room for a young SP rotation and Beltran was in his final year of his contract.....surprised the Mets were able to acquire a good going arm like Wheeler in July (from Giants) for a a short term rental player in Beltran.

Those two trades look to be pretty good deals and Wheeler is expected back just as Harvey was. The team should be absolutely loaded with excellent inexpensive SP in the next couple few years. Dickey is getting up there in age and isn't doing very well so far with Toronto. Looks like a " pretty good" savy trade.

Speaking of the Mets, Jacob d'Grom is quite a story.....he was mid 20s yr SP prospect/farmhand who didn't have outstanding numbers in the minors but has turned into a great SP.......a prime example of things turning out as good as possible for the Mets' with a minor league "so-so" pitching prospect.
His minor league career numbers were:
3.62 ERA, 1.28 WHIP...
... and his Hits/IP, K/9 IP were also worse than his current ML numbers.

So far as we speak, he's had 40 GS with the Mets since 2014 with a "career" ERA of 2.46 and 1.03 WHIP.
This year, so far- 2.18 ERA and 0.90 WHIP, 9.1 K / per 9 IP.

Mets gave him his chance...and it's turned into a jackpot.

Their hitting is an absolute joke. They're rolling a minor league lineup out there every night. Fittingly Kershaw is perfect after six tonight.
 
Cashman needs to look at New York National, find out where they are getting all those young talented pitchers then get busy and find some for the Yankees.
 
And Collins is an idiot, why the hell would he have his only HR threat (Grandy) leading off. No wonder why he only has 30 RBI on 14 HRs, Because 11 of his 14 are solo.
 
Go look at the box score of LA's 3-0 win. Look at the absolute steaming pile of buffalo shit and horse piss lineup the Mets are rolling out there.
 
Mets are still just 3 games behind 1st place Nats and if a couple of their more established veterans somehow, someway -it's not humanly impossible - have a good 2nd half , the Mets can win this division if their pitching continues along.
Yep, it's the "if" game - and incidently, Washington also has a couple of "ifs" they better avoid. IMHO.

Nats' bullpen has 12 blown saves- only 5 other N.L. teams have blown more.

Mets have better SP and bullpen, but yes indeed their offense is horrible.
Last in league in Scoring, SLG%, BA, OPS and 13th in OBP.

The guys they were counting on are failing.

vs LHP he's batting .121 with 1 HR and an OPS of .341...has anyone seen what's his name?

Duda has 12 HRs, .236 BA and .755 OPS....he hit 30 HRs last year.
vs RHP he's batting .212, .698 OPS and a .363 SLG%...ouch!
Murphy just came off the DL, batting 31 points below his career AVG prior to this season.

I don't blame Met fans for being disgusted....however, they are still just three games behind the Nats...and the Nats better hope Max continues to pitch every bit as good in the 2nd half as he's done in the first half.

"If" just any two of their veteran hitters have a very good 2nd half it could be, maybe, possibly, perhaps be the difference as Washington continues to leave the door open.

Interesting.....the Mets can still possibly steal this division from Washington....and Alderson and the Wilponzies know it.....even if they don't make a big splash trade.

Checking scores saw an article that the Mutts are set to acquire Uribe and our old buddy Kelley Johnson. That'll put some pop out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
The Mets need a big bat and the fans aren't going to fall for this continued nonsense. Adding more mediocre hitters helps nothing.
 
And they need to move there only HR threat (Grandy) out of the lead off spot & put him in the middle of the lineup. 11 of his 14 HRs this year have been solo shots.

The lineup is terrible so it's not like they have better options. Duda for example hit 30 homers last year and currently has 12.
