I got an 1840. 610 on reading, 570 on Math, and 660 on Writing with an 8/12 on the essay. I think I'm going to take it again because I can probably do better on the reading, math, and essay. Anyone know what an 1840 can do for me in California? I've heard its good enough to get into UC Davis, Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, and if I'm lucky maybe San Diego or Irvine.

well, i already decided i'm going to UCLA on an athletic scholarship, i just HAD to take the SATs. HOO-RAH.

I never took the ACTs, but i did get a 2280 on my SATs.

What sport are you playing? Maybe I'll see you on the court...

And Run, I don't know that much about the UC's, but what I can tell you is that college admissions are more competitive than ever all across the states. My sister's a brilliant kid who got a 35 on the ACT (out of 36), had a 3.95 unweighted GPA, and was at the top 5% of her class, yet she got denied at all the Ivy's she applied to, as well as Northwestern (even with me as a legacy), Michigan, Berkeley, Stanford, and Duke. The only schools that accepted her were WashU-STL, Vanderbilt, Chicago, and Wisconsin and is probably headed to Wisky because of finances. (Keep an eye out for her, Schaddy.

Yeah I know, theres tons of kids and not enough colleges. Ivy league schools are friggen nuts though, you'd need like a 4.5 GPA, great SAT and ACT scores and do a ton of extracurricular activities and still theres so many people from all over the world trying to get in its about impossible. Probably have a better opportunity to get in if you were from in state and a minority, if not then its completely nuts.

It does help that I'm from California though, I'm pretty likely to get into Davis, Santa Barbara, or Santa Cruz I think. I'll also apply to some CSUs since I get some free applications because my mom is "low income" and I'll also apply to USF and Santa Clara.

Are you an underrepresented minority? If so, that significantly increases your chances.

Also, Santa Clara is amazing. I've got a friend on the soccer team who I stayed with a week this fall and it's an underrated party school (not that you'd choose it on that basis - just pointing that out

). I applied, got accepted, and was very close to going there. The only problem was that they gave me such a weak financial aid package. It's funny, even the Ivy's gave me more aid than Santa Clara, which is a bummer, because I seriously considered going there to play ball as a preferred walk-on before my aid package came in the mail. Can't say enough about their academics though. If you can get the aid to go there, you'll be getting a great education.

i got a 1050 old scale 1530 new scale, sordof depressing since i got a 1700 on the psat but it was my first time taking it and i was nervous since they test will play a major part in my life, i regestered for the next one, hopefully ill do better,

Nah, I play for Northwestern University, but we might play you guys next year.

You're walking on? That's great news at a big program like UCLA. Are you a preferred walk-on?

BTW - What position for football?

UCLA hasn't inked any WR's or Corners yet though... are you walking on?

They just sent out a letter? A lot of my friends got recruited to play football, and the coach would come watch us practice, meet with their families, etc.

Or was it a likely letter for walk-on status?

(Sorry for the interrogation, but I'm just interested by the recruiting processes certain schools go through, lol.)

No, I'm white but I go to a catholic high school so I think that increases my chances of getting into a private college. Its not as much of an advantage as if I were a minority but I think I'm more likely to get in than a student with the same grades/SAT scores who goes to a public school. My sister got an 1100 on the SAT and got into USF for example, I know she wouldn't have been accepted with those scores/grades if she had gone to our local public high school.

I would definitely have Santa Clara near the top of my list if I were accepted there but like you said financial aid will be a big concern since I'll have to take out loans and pay for college later on. Private schools generally cost quite a bit more than an in-state public college would.

well yeah. however, coach dorell has been heavily recruiting me since i was 16 and he's talked to me and my mom about becoming a bruin for a few months now. i spoke with Duke, Notre Dame, a few ivy league schools, NYU, Texas, Texas A&M, but in the end, UCLA is the place i want to be.

and no, it wasn't a walk-on status. He promised to help me juggle my academics, track and football.

Awesome. Aren't you from Canada (maybe I just thought that since you're a Raps fan)? Didn't know football was even played up there... damn, I'm ignorant...
