Second round steals

I really like this guy. I don't know why he isn't in DX's mock draft. Inefficient, I guess, and his team stunk, but the Pistons have had him in twice. Check him out:

Maybe he can be a Khris Middleton-esque steal? He says all the right things.
I'm not a fan of Terran Petteway. He's a small small forward that doesn't particularly rebound well (4.9 rpg), distribute the ball (2.8 apg), or shoot efficiently (39% fg, 31% 3ptfg). He averages a high amount of turnovers (3.4 tpg) and quite a few fouls (3.0 fpg). Oh, and he's 22+ years old.

Here's a bit from NBADraft.net:
Weaknesses: Petteway is a high-volume shooter who isn't always the most efficient player on the court. His shooting percentage was under 40% last season ... Takes a lot of long pull-up jumpers from inside the arc, which is one of the least efficient shots one can take ... He's very confident but at times, it can be over confidence as he forces bad shots ... All in all, he's overly reliant on pull-up jumpers ... Can be too aggressive at times, to the point of being out of control ... Averaged a whopping 3.4 turnovers per game last season, a huge number for a non-point guard ... Not a standout athlete ... His combine numbers were very underwhelming, though his wingspan helps him ... His standing vert and max vert were both the fifth-lowest of 49 players measured at the combine, which includes plenty of big men ... Also was determined to be fairly skinny at the combine, weighing in at 209 lbs ... Has a slight tendency to get lost on defense off the ball ...

Yeah, yeah, BUT:
a) the name "Terran" is awesome. He BETTER have a brother called Martian.
b) those are all reasons why you don't get drafted in the FIRST round. And reasons why people like Middleton and Green get drafted too low.

What I like about him is that he's obviously smart, he's a good teammate, he's got a good wingspan (which seems to be more important to defense than vertical or height) and he dragged Nebraska to the NCAAs the season before the one just past (and in the one just past his mother was dying).

ALSO: I don't mind turnovers that much given that he was basically the only offense Nebraska had, and I think he was playing SG more than SF, which makes the rebounding numbers actually pretty good.

But my #1 reason for liking him: he's fun to watch!

In the right situation, Robert Upshaw will be the biggest steal in the 2nd round.
Mighty Joe Young could also be a steal.

Philly has FIVE picks in the second round.

#35 or #37 should be a target.

We have no 2nd round picks for something like 4 straight years and Philly has 5 in one Draft. If Upshaw were available, I'd definitely take a shot at him in the 2nd round. He may be that guy that is the 1st pick in the 2nd round as he'll easily have the biggest upside of anyone left but you don't have to guarantee him a contract.

I've been thinking about this for a while, but Philly is weird. They could easily just use them all on Eurostash players, so they might see no advantage in trading. Plus, it's not like they have an overcrowded roster. Still, if you offered them a future FIRST rounder, they might give up 2 or 3, although the last two are pretty worthless.

Atlanta starts two all stars picked in the 2nd round. The list of active 2nd rounders is impressive enough. DeAndre Jordan, Dragic, Korver, Gasol, Ginobili, Milsapp, Monta Ellis, Chandler Parsons...

And the odds of finding a player of that level in the 2nd round are miniscule.

Draymond Green, Lou Williams, Mo Williams, Isaiah Thomas, Trevor Ariza, Hassan Whiteside, Marcin Gortat, Danny Green, Khris Middleton, Patrick Beverly, Lance Stephenson, Jodie Meeks, Dujuan Blair, Patty Mills, Marcus Thornton, Omer Asik, Mario Chalmers, Glenn Davis, Josh McRoberts, Brandon Bass, Ersan Ilyasova...

More, too.

3 in that list were Blazers picks, no? McRoberts, Mills, and Asik.

Over a ten year period, that is 3/10 or 30%. From this list alone. I'm probably missing guys the Blazers took in round 2 who are playing somewhere. Will Barton?

You named a bunch of role players... not on the same level as Dragic/Jordan/Gasol

Second round steals. I am sure there are first rounders drafted ahead of those guys who were outright busts.

Like Marquis Teague. I'll leave it up to you to think of some of those busts.

Will indeed. Whose option the Nuggets just picked up, making him restricted.

You forgot Dante Cunningham and Jeff Ayres (who was Pendergraph when we had him). Also Kostas Papanickolaou and Marko Todorovic, who was named the top center in the Spanish League, over Ante Tomic, Willy Hernangomez, the immortal Fran Vazquez and others.

I can't find the article but there was a blurb a few weeks ago that Jaiteh raised his stock during his workout with two teams: Memphis and Portland.

This years 2nd round is loaded... I honestly think in 10 years, 5-7 players in this years 2nd round will be upper echelon role players with a couple reaching #2 status.

Melton is my pick. Maybe the kid out of Marshall (Penvia?)
