Second rounders?

So... if we were never planning on taking anybody, why wait till the last minute to offload them and settle for cash? Was the plan to hope somebody else fell in love with a prospect and offered the moon? And then OKC saw through us and said "you'll take pocket change and like it"?

Not a good look. Why should we believe that any future second rounders are worth jack if this is how you fuck up a second round?

Joe is splurging on donuts for his staff tomorrow I guess and a case of Polydent for Jody

Is it true ownership is too cheap to fire Billups and now we are selling picks for cash? Being small market is hard enough but being stingy too? Damn
Whay the hell? PA's estate has billions and billions, are they really this fukkin cheap?

Blazers need some new blood at the top. Someone who actually likes basketball would be a good start. This is pretty depressing. Makes me think any other trades will be for bargain bin contracts and late future 1s.
Yep, we need a change of ownership badly!

Couple of reasons weak draft and think we already have a ton of youth to develop. Obviously if there’s a guy we want then draft him otherwise I would trade for future 2nds or combine with a player to make a trade

well nailed that one! Consider me a draft guru or maybe I have inside connections or maybe it just made sense

if we do intend to trade Grant or Thybulle or Ant.......there will be some matching salaries coming back that we will need room for.

This is a good reason to trade current no. 2s for future ones...to pad future trades. But instead, Cronin sold them.

Didn't he get three for one of them??? Do not get me wrong I'm still scratching my head about everything Joe has done since he took over.

Hold on, did we sell 40 to the suns who then got 2 2nds from the heat for it? Is that correct?

I don’t blame Joe at all, he didn’t sell those picks because he wanted to. Why would any GM sell picks instead of getting future picks for them unless ownership has tied his hands. What’s really going on, are we anywhere close to being sold? What is a realistic timeline in anyone’s opinion of the Blazers being sold?

Does anyone know the ansswer to this? Because if that's what happened, that would be gross negligence on Cronin's part.

Pathetic that this franchise just sells multiple second round picks for cash while other teams are flipping them for assets or spending cash for assets.

I don't understand the Blazers fans that continue to support Jody or claim she's not cheap.

Our shit ownership is a black cloud over this team bigger than any crappy executive, coach, or player this franchise has ever had.

I’m not defending Jody on this selling 2nd round picks, but I think I have a couple of reasoned responses. The first being, Portland might have tried trading the one pick but couldn’t find a partner. I sense they probably had tunnel vision on a player, he was selected prior and they didn’t have a dance partner so they just sold to whoever and moved along. Possibly didn’t prepare for all scenarios. Also, I am pretty sure Portland is full up on end of bench players needing development. Murray and Rupert for sure. Walker and Scoot need development too. There just isn’t much room there. Management made the decision they like the players they are developing currently over what was available. Finally, we don’t know if Portland has the framework of a deal or two worked out and ready to execute that will send players out and in. Now if you could rack up second rounders and not have them count against your 15 man roster and put them on the Remix, that would be phenomenal. But they only get three and most second rounders want guaranteed money. So a whole myriad of factors were in play.

The Portland Trail Blazers entered the second day of the NBA draft on Thursday with two second-round picks but ended the day with three future second-round picks and no players after making two trades.

I thought there was a minimum roster size, but I suppose having no players will make the tanking a LOT easier.

Fentress wrote a beauty for Jody. He changed the wording from the roster is "full", to this team is "LOADED". So that's why Cronin had to sell the 2nd round pick for cash.

would I rather have the Oregonian writers that were mean to the players? Hell no !! But I do get a chuckle from the writers who sprinkle sparkle dust on a lottery team in rebuilding mode.

He said the roster is loaded?

Sounds like he's the one that is full of something.

I think that's plausible. First they had a big meal, then they got drunk.

What really pisses me off about Kolek is that the Knicks probably won't play him at all. They have a ton of guards and they just signed Cam Payne. Plus Thibs is notoriously anti-rookie. Whereas with us he'd be literally the only backup PG (yeah, yeah, Anfernee will play a lot of PG but he's not a PG, let's be honest).

On top of that the Knicks have Lithuanian LEGEND Rokas Jokubaitis, whom they acquired in a similar draft-night deal in 2021, in their Summer League team , and they don't even have room for him in their 15-man roster. Embarrassment of riches! We should have asked for his draft rights in the Kolek trade, at least!
