This is my thinking. I just cannot count the Lakers out yet and i don't think Drummond fits real well. Gasol has been fitting better because he is money from three.

The only thing about Gasol is where does he fit when LeBron's back playing 30+ minutes per game? He's not a threat in the low post anymore. His game is pick and pop or reverse from the top of the key. When LeBron and Schoeder are back, it seems to me he might just muck up their perimeter spacing.

people really hoping Portland plays teams who don't play their best players so the Blazers get into the playoffs and play a team that's playing their best players

Actually, I am hoping that those teams don't play their best players, we win out, and Dallas loses 1 game.
Then we would play Denver who will be missing one of their best players.

Agreed... a 4/5 matchup with Denver is by far the best case scenario. Would a huge run be likely? No. We could beat Denver though.

With the Clippers losing today, Denver is back within 1 game of the LAC for the 3 seed, and they hold the tie-breaker.

they are also 2-0 against Portland and 1-2 against Dallas. It could be if they have a chance to get 3rd seed by beating Portland in the season final, and that would get them the Blazers in a 3/6 matchup, they'd play to win that game. They have 3 fairly winnable games left before the Blazer game

and as long as the #1 seed hangs in the balance, it could be that both Utah and Phoenix will play to win against Portland

I wouldn't be surprised if teams rested players, but there is still a lot at stake right now

and I'm not sure how much top teams will fear a matchup against the Lakers; they have looked real vulnerable for months now

IMO, they would be foolish to not do whatever it takes to avoid the Lakers in the first round.

It is... but I'm not counting on the Lakers winning it all. I do think they have a better chance than the Nuggets, Mavs, and Blazers combined though!

If everyone is healthy, the Clippers beating the Blazers in a 7 game series seems like a near lock.
So you bet against the Blazers and for the Lakers?
You do understand people who are from Portland don't much like The Lakers right?

Yes. And yes I understand Blazer fans don't like the Lakers, I hate them!

I don't bet on emotion though. Nor do I bet amounts that would cause me to root against my favorite team.

Yes he did. Terrible fan.

Hate to break it to you, but how someone on a message board rates my fandom is absolutely meaningless to me. Would you care to know how good of a fan I think you are?

I wasn’t talking to you

Read the thread. “Yes he did. Terrible fan.” was in response to Fairly-Hard.

the way things have gone over the last few seasons, I'm halfway expecting the final game against Denver to decide if Portland is 6th or 7th seed. Nothing is ever easy

If Denver has the 4th seed locked up, they would probably prefer the Lakers the 6th, so insure they're not on their side of the bracket. Now if Denver is 0.5 games back of the LAC, and a win moves them to #3, but the Lakers to #6, I would think Denver would tank the game.

While highly unlikely, I will laugh, a great deal, if the last game against Denver lines up to determine if the Nuggets get 3rd (with a win), or 4th, and the Blazers 5th (with a win) or 6th.

Warriors can’t pass us. We have tiebreaker. So them losing doesn’t change the situation. It’s Memphis that needs to lose for us to clinch 7th. Or us winning which we will.

Well it's like this we don't want to go playin games. Due to Memphis or golden states could beat us be again we could beat those 2 teams too. We do not want to put us in that situation at all it's doesn't matter who we play in the 1st round.

Sad. What a terrible fan you are. I thought more of you before tonight. I thought you were one of the good guys. Guess not.

Big difference between rooting and betting.

Tince will root for the Blazers, just like you. However his expectations of a series win is not high.

I am sure he would be ecstatic to pay you if the Blazers go as you hope.

Not a bad guy, just someone with a different perspective on the team.

Appreicate that Gramps!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to pay Eric $50 after we beat the Clippers... that would be a winning trade-off in my world.

Now if I bet, $10,000, I would probably want the Clippers to win because of the impact that would have on my life, but:
1) I would never bet that much on a sporting event.
2) I would never bet near that amount against my favorite team
3) Given how good of a bet taking the Clippers over the Blazers is; if I wasn't going to be rooting hard for the Blazers, I would've proposed a much higher amount. However, I kept it at a "fun" amount that would have zero impact on my rooting interest. I repeat ZERO impact.

You could very well be right. I did not look into the 3-way tie-breaker option to confirm there was no way they could pass us. If you're positive we finish no worse than 7th in a 3-way tie-breaker with Memphis & GSW, I will change it. Good catch!

If we get the 6th seed...

Dallas' loss means we control our own destiny for the 5th seed. The Knicks offense does us no favors in a loss to the Lakers. Things are really tightening up.

  • 5th Seed - Magic Number = 3* (excluding 3-way tie scenario)
    • Portland wins or Dallas losses
  • 6th Seed - Magic Number = 2
    • Portland wins or Laker losses
  • 7th Seed - Magic Number = 0 - Clinched 5.10.21

Remaining Schedules:
