Semi OT: Deron Williams will opt OUT of contract

I can see jersey trying to tank so they have the best possible shot at top 3 pick. Karma will play out and we get #4

Didn't he demand a trade there? Now he wants out? What a wrecking ball....

He said this before the season even started. I think he leaves, but this isn't news.

Didn't demand a trade, period. Utah just saw what happened with Melo and decided to offer him up to the team with the best assets they wanted back for him.

If Portland actually catches a damn break this off season, we could potentially have a rebuild roster of

Deron Williams
Eric Gordon
Nic Batum
LaMarcus Aldridge
Jared Sullinger

And someone like Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Lamb or Terrence Jones off the bench with Nolan Smith and Elliott Williams

We may only have a 1% chance of getting him, but I hope they make a big pitch for him.

Ha WHAT?! It'd be a great off-season if we got any of those 3 players, let alone all three. We can dream though!

Deron 'Two toes in Dallas' Williams.

Yeah, we can forget this pipedream.

How do we get DWill and Gordon?

Without a time machine and the proper draft picks, there is no way they will end up in Portland.

Deron might play for the Blazers if PA sells the team to someone in Ft. Worth.

anyone think someones stupid enough to offer batum a max contract?

Outside of the hometown thing, I don't see many things more appealing for him in Dallas than in Portland.

He has maybe two years with Dirk, whereas he has at least 4 with Aldridge (who is also from Dallas). We have more roster flexibility and potential than Dallas this year, and in the near future with two potential lottery picks, and Nico. And he is really close friends with Wessy.

Make more money in state tax free Texas

Ah good call. But he doesn't seem like the money grubbing type. He wants to win and play, and has complained quite a few times about how he has no crowd support in NJ.

Considering how many teams will have cap space this summer, it is very possible that some team will throw big money at him. I just hope they wait until AFTER we've used up our cap space.

Unless its a max deal kinda, makes sense for batum to wait tell the few marque guys are gone so teams pancc thinking they'll get nothing and overpay him.

How about an owner who isn't a complete basketcase recluse?

He's no recluse. You're just mad that no one likes your hamburger stand.

I've seen owners come and go longer than you've been alive, and the only Lakers, Sonics, Grizzlies, or Blazers owner who was less reclusive than Allen was Sam Schulman.

You may be new to capitalism, so I'll fill you in--very rich people avoid the hoi polloi, for many good reasons.

The Dallas' sun is much more appealing than Portland, especially for a guy who's from there.

Good point, 60 more days of sun here in Houston than Portland, so I assume Dallas is right about there as well

How enjoyable will that sun be when Dirk retires and Deron is the only good player left on that team? They have zero young guys, their vets are ancient, and the team borderline shitty as it is.

With Cuban's track record of wheeling and dealing and attracting guys to come play there I doubt Deron is too worried about it

I have a feeling he wants Williams and Howard. I suspect he will trade dirk and resigned Jason terry for Dwight next season. It could be relayed that Cuban can just wait one year and just get him for free.
