Good to know folks are still recycling Shawn Kemps old condoms...kudos Sly

I've been known to buy a guitar if I see someone playiing one and I like it. I saw Jessie Colin Young playing a Parker guitar and I wanted one, now I have one. Bought a Peruvian Charango after seeing an Andean Folk band with one, etc. Not so much with sporting goods. Maybe the Louiseville slugger I had as a kid or the Chuck Taylor kicks but not so much anymore.

I think a guitar is different - if you see a great guitarist with a particular guitar you figure it's a good one, right? But Pepsi is sugar water whoever promotes it. And there are really not big differences between sneaker brands.

In before Crandc is kidnapped by sneaker heads. Nice knowing you!

Seeing this new Dame commercial has made me (re)wonder the effect that celebrities and athletes have on a society. It's probably been since Jordan that it really took off... but the psychology nerd in me really wants to know why and how it works and if it works at all.

Obviously that won't get answered here. But for a very small sample size... do athletes sell the goods? Do celebrities? I know it has a great effect on kids, but for the adults, that's what I'm interested in.

Discuss.

As a kid? Yes.

Now? No. I rarely watch television broadcasting with advertisements. Even then I'm aware of their selling techniques. I don't care who's pandering the product. I will buy the product if I really want it or I won't. It's that simple for me.

3 things I forgot. Breakfast cereal, razors, deodorant. I know those commercials when I was young had an influence on those choices

For the record, I wear New Balance. Because they fit well and cost less than Nike. Comfort and cost. I don't care who else wears them. Hell, I wasn't fashionable when I was a teenager, or a young woman, and at my advanced age I'm damn well going to be comfortable.

I have a pair of New Balance's. They really aren't much cheaper than Nike's.

On sale they are a lot cheaper. Also have a pair of Filo.

Probably. Or maybe boots with the fur.

(with the fur...)

I don't get it...

Shawty had them apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was looking at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low
Them baggy sweat pants
And the Reebok's with the straps (with the straps)
She turned around and gave that big booty a smack (hey)
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

Is that some sort of insult? I'm not sure I appreciate it.
