Semi-OT: What's the deal with Chris Bosh?

So: we'd all like to land a star player. Preferably Anthony Davis for any collection of our players not called Lillard or McCollum. But the reality is, we don't have the trade pieces (certainly not compared with some other teams). But there is a star player out there who wants to play but his team won't let him: Chris Bosh. As I understand it, he thinks he's healthy, they say he's not. (Sounds like Darius Miles/Brandon Roy?) Anyone know the scoop? Would they trade him or are they just hoping he'll retire? If he COULD play, he would be pretty much a perfect addition to our team, if a little old.
 
I believe he makes 77 million over the next 3 seasons. So yeah i am sure the Heat would trade him in a heartbeat. But I doubt they will play him, or his salary won't be covered by medical insurance.

They won't cut him or again they would have to pay him if he plays a few games. (After he clears waivers) So if he wants to still play....maybe a buy out? Which I doubt the two sides would come to an agreement on..
 
Is his condition life-threatening? Wasn't it something to do with blood clots?
 
The Heats doctors wont clear him, and its not that they want to cover a good amount of his contract under insurance because if he was healthy they could get a hell of a deal for him. I'd love to have Bosh on the Blazers but i'd want several different doctors to clear him and monitor him so there wasn't any chance of his life being threatened by the clotting issue.
 
Reoccurring blood clots.

Imagine you're the team that gave Bosh the chance that ended up killing him. There's a reason why the Heat are playing hardball here.
 
I would sign him. He would instantly be the best power forward on the roster.... and that's even if he can't play.

I hope this is all just posturing by both parties. At 33, Bosh should just keep cashing his checks and ride off into the the sunset. It's not like he's in his prime and has several good years left. He'll get his $52 million over the next two years whether he plays, or not. Why risk dying at 33 when you're set for the rest of your life financially, even if you live to be 133?

And I don't get why MIA would get this special one-time exception. Bosh isn't the first player to retire for medical reasons. Other than past amnesty provisions (which did not have to be medically related), nobody else has gotten this special treatment. MIA should buy him out using the stretch provision, like everyone else has to when they no longer want a player on their roster or his full salary impacting their current cap situation.

Even when Bosh was at his healthiest, LaMarcus was (and still is) better.

I assume it's because he isn't retiring. The team and the player disagree over whether he's healthy enough to play and that's leading to a "forced retirement" (forced by a single team, as opposed to the league in general having no interest--we don't know yet whether that second one is the case).
 
He should go back to the Raptors and be a bench mentor like Kaman was here.
 
Not trying to derail this thread, but how is this situation different than what the Blazers went through with Brandon Roy? If not for those stupid 5 games with the T'Wolves, he would have been off our cap too!!

Only difference I can see is that BRoy wouldn't die on the court from a knee injury but Bosh could from a blood clot

The difference is we used the amnesty clause on Roy, not a medical retirement. We were on the hook for what we owed Roy, whether he played zero games or 1000, but the money we owed him didn't count against our cap.

Of course, the reason we didn't go the medical retirement route is Paul didn't want to risk a Darius Miles 2.0 situation where Roy played a handful of games somewhere else and then ended up counting against our cap space for years to come.

There is no amnesty provision in the current CBA.

Edit: just to be clear, after waiving Roy, he did not count against our cap. That's the whole point of the amnesty provision.

"The decision comes with major financial impacts. Roy will receive the balance of the $63 million guaranteed to him on a mini-Max extension signed in 2009. Roy's $15 million salary for 2011-2012 will be removed from Portland's salary cap and its luxury tax bill. His future salaries will also no longer count against Portland's cap figure or luxury tax. He was on the books through 2014-2015."

The issue with Roy playing in MIN was about insurance, not the salary cap. By playing in those 5 games, insurance no longer picked up 80% (or whatever the figure was) of Roy's remaining salary.

Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat are moving towards a resolution that will allow his salary to come off their salary cap without concern of it returning going forward.

Bosh failed a physical in the preseason after missing the final part of both the 14-15 and 15-16 seasons due to blood clots.

The Heat, NBA and NBPA have been working together on a resolution for Bosh's situation that will likely be a one-time allocation.

A return to the NBA by Bosh could have reinstated his cap hit to the Heat.

Bosh's contract expires after the 18-19 season.

The Heat had the right to apply to exclude Bosh's salary from their salary cap as soon as Feb. 9, the one-year anniversary from his last game played.

Bosh still has interest in resuming his playing career.

My first guess is he would want to go to CLE and play with LeBron for another chance at a title. They have Love but Bosh would play some '4' and some small '5' to make it work. If that didn't work out, then maybe Portland has a small chance if they have added PG13.

Bosh wasn't happy when Lebron left Miami after he took a big paycut to bring Lebron in just to watch him leave again. They had some bad blood at the end..I don't see him going to Cleveland....Spurs maybe....still think he should retire in Toronto
