Sergio a Knick?

This might be me, but does anyone else see Sergio & #24 for Duhon? It would clear some more cap to resign Nate Robinson, get them another cheap pick, and a serviceable PG. Duhon started off the year great but D'Antoni fell head over heels for Nate Robinson, and he could be looking for a pass first guy like Sergio rather than Duhon while cutting cap. I just don't see the Blazers getting the #8 pick w/o throwing in something that will intrigue D'Antoni like Outlaw or Batum. Because #24 & a bunch of 2nd rounders isn't worth a lotto pick any year.

Then give em Outlaw! :devilwink:

Supposedly Rodriguez intrigues D'Antoni. I think he's dreaming a bit too hard if he really thinks Rodriguez can be his new Nash, but yaneverknow.

Anyway, as far as Duhon goes, I think he's a decent backup point guard but not an upgrade on what Portland already has. He had some raw stats success in D'Antono's up-tempo offense, but his efficiency remained very low. I'd be surprised if Pritchard had interest in Duhon. I could imagine interest in Nate Robinson, but supposedly Portland hasn't actually shown any interest.

I think Pritchard's interest is in the #8 pick.

So if for instance we moved Outlaw and Sergio to NY for Jeffries and #8, New York would effectively get out of Jared's two year contract and the #8's slotted salary. This will free up about $9M in cap space. It's not as nice as ridding yourselves of Curry, but it's very significant.

We could then move #8 and Rudy Fernandez to Memphis for Rubio and Hamed Haddadi (or Aurthur).

We'd still have our cap space, #24, our traded player exception, and our second rounders.

Do you really think we would move Rudy to get Rubio? KP would want those two playing together. Come on man!

Name me one team who has made a run to the finals or NBA finals in the past 5 years that hasn't added or already had veteran leadership on their roster.

I think I just realized what Sergio is like:

All that flash and sizzle, but no substance.

Was the Cavs run in the last 5 years?

Who says KP doesn't have that in the plans this summer as well?

I'm just glad we got rid of him.

The downside is we won't get any more MARIS posts. :(

So while Rodriguez was assisting on more of his teammates' baskets with his passing, he was also creating more turnovers. That does not a great distributor make.

Sure it does. He distributes that ball to both teams with great regularity.

You mean the one that had significant contributions from Eric Snow, Zydrunas Ilgauskus, Donyell marshall, and Damon Jones?

so we need low priced veterans (or an overpaid center) that can be had AFTER we add at the draft?

Seemed you were trying to imply they didn't have veteran leadership or contributions with your original post.

Hey. I totally would love to keep them together, but I don't see Memphis wanting Bayless or Webster (which would be the other two young talents we could offer in Rudy's place.

Conley might have to take a backseat. Mayo and Rudy would be an awesome backcourt.

by the way here are Eric Snow's playoff #'s from that year..

"Snow played in 19 of the 20 Cavaliers playoff games. He averaged 1.7 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists."

And Damon Jones stats in the playoffs

"2.4 points, .8 Rebounds, and 1.0 Assists"

And Donyell Marshalls

"3.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, .3 assists."

I really don't see KP moving Rudy. Not even for Rubio.

Now THAT is the veteran leadership we need! Right SodaPop?

Is Eddy Curry's playing career completely over? I know he's had heart and knee problems (and maybe more alarmingly weight problems). He only played 3 games this year.

He clearly was a bad match for D'Antoni. But is it realistic to think of him as a backup center in a more plodding half court system? If so, if we take on his garbage contract maybe you can start to think about trading Przybilla if the right deal comes along...

I'm not a big fan of his game (is anybody?) But he's big and was a pretty good scorer in the post. He's even more one-dimensional than Przybilla, but a backup center doesn't really have to be that dynamic, provided the few good things they do they do well.

Curry is the anti-Przybilla. He's one of the worst rebounders of his size to play the game and a horrible defender. I don't look for my back-up center to be a big time scorer, but I do want him to play defense and own the boards. Curry would be a huge downgrade in both those areas. So, I'd rather keep Joel than add Curry.

Too bad you can't combine Curry's offense with Joel's defense and rebounding. You'd have a perennial all-star and borderline Hall of Famer.

Is there a point in there? Or are you just pulling further away from mentioning Cleveland when he asked if a team didn't get contributions from a vet?

Kind of a silly challenge, since virtually all teams are a mix of rookies and veterans. If Portland wins the championship next season, their "veteran leadership" will come from players like Przybilla and Blake. If one is so inclined to build narratives of "veteran leadership."

Veteran leadership yeah.. but significant contributions? :dunno:

The pop is fizzzzzed out. Minstrel just dropped alkaseltzer in the Diet Coke.

You can talk about leadership all you want. There is something to just going out and kicking some ass that tends to get it done.

Where was that veteran leadership out of Blake this post season, then?
