Sergio appreciation thread

I like him as a backup more than most in here. Oh well.. wish him well. Time to move on.

I think he's got a chance to make an impact somewhere... but it just didn't work out here. Good try in acquiring him, KP. Good that we got SOME value (even if it's only moving up 7 spots) for him.

Ed O.

Vamos El Chacho!

And fuck you, Nate McMillan for ruining his career.

Nope, Nate stole his mojo by putting Sergio's no-jumpshot-havin' skills at SG last year when Jack pouted about being a "Pure Point".

Sergio wasn't smart enough to bring cookies at 3am.

Sergio is not ruined. He has a fresh chance on a new team.

This should be good for him. And if this helps us sign a big FA later in the summer I'm fine with it. Today could be boring though :sigh:

I appreciate Sergio.

i appreciate his rookie season a lot...to bad he couldn't improve

Does this put to bed the whole KP loves his players too much to make any moves?

I appreciate that the only times I'll have to see his ATROCIOUS defense is when he is attempting to play defense against the Blazers. :)

Here is a little memory, and a great display of that defense:

It's a player's leauge, not a coaches league, if KP really thought this was the case you can bet your bottom dollar that Nate would be hunting through the job postings on craigslist or monster.com

So you think Sergio was the best choice at SG playing with Jack? I'm not saying we shouldn't trade Sergio. And Portland is a coach's team. I think Nate, due to his great success in certain parts of his job, is given a lot of leeway in parts he isn't so good at (rotations, lineups, x-and-o's, personnel decisions).

Frankly, I think Nate plays "guards" with as many swingmen and combo guards as have rolled through here; I don't think the line between 1 and 2 is distinct as you make it out to be. Sergio's sophomore year was fucking brutal and as a result Nate played Blake, Jack and Roy as his primary guards with Sergio mopping up spot minutes (8 or so a game) That's called playing your best available players, not playing favorites or being induced with bribes like you seemed to imply in your post above. Is Nate perfect? Absolutely not, and the way people rag on him is understandable (all fans rag on the coach) but I think it's mostly unwarranted.

Yes, Nate doesn't play 1's and 2's b/c we have only one PG on the roster. And yes, Sergio was brutal. And no, I'm not saying he should've played more that 10mpg.

What I am saying is that it was effing asinine (and I'd tell Nate to his face) to play Sergio off the ball the few minutes he was in b/c Jack wanted to prove he was a "pure point". Let's see....a guy's shooting 30% and his only skill is high assist ratio....let's make him a spot-up shooter!

Please. It's warranted. And that's only one example.

And I don't think it was a bribe---that was tongue-in-cheek.

The only thing that matters to me is wins and seeing the teams best players flourish, check and check. Hell, I'm kind of a Bayless fan but I fully supported Nate sitting his ass on the bench because he wasn't ready.

In any case I'm so sick and fucking tired of arguing about Sergio -- it's time to move on.

Vaya con Dios, Sergio. You'll be missed.

My sadness for losing Sergio is counterbalanced by my schadenfreude toward MARIS61, who probably is moving to Beautiful Northern California to be closer to his man crush.
