Sorry dudes, but Sergio is making a few of you look really stupid. Simply put.....he does NOT suck.

Sergio 12 assists in 18 mins?

That's amazing!! He' sure has came on since his benching! I guess Nate knows what he's doing!

Ok, I know there are a lot of different threads and some are going to probably be merged, but I wanted to get one in! And that is pretty amazing!

You beat me by a min, but my post wasn't a put down thread.

In some rare instances there needs to be a put down thread, because Sergio has been put down too often. The dude can play and it is time to stop with the extreme descriptions of our players.

Well he was benched, it wasn't because he was playing great.

Sergio has been playing great and is a true point guard.

Oh yeah, Sergio is still only 22 as well.

No he wasn't playing great, but you could see the skills. To me it was more of a style issue. But once we started pushing it........his skills became obvious. He still has a ways to go, but he gets better all the time.

The second unit has really picked up the pace, and Serg is capitalizing.

Sergio finished the season strong, but he was playing like a pile of shit for much of the season. I hope he continues his good play into the playoffs.

Sergio flourishes in an open-court style. When he's running and playing with flair, it even helps him in half-court sets. Playing a slow-down disciplined game seems to drain him of any use.

He and the second unit should be given the free rein to run, run, run. It really maximizes him and the other reserves.

It's mind-boggling how much talent we have on this team. Our bench was fantastic tonight.

All I can say is, look out NBA! The Blazers are coming!

Fans were calling Sergio "worthless". They ought to be called out. I wonder how many that were saying that, still think so?

Exactly. He's going to have to find a way to be effective in a grind-it-out halfcourt style against Houston. But Sergio gets props for tonight. 12 assists in 18 minutes? Geez! That's pretty impressive.

Sergio has had a great end to the season.

Ok call me out.

He was playing worthless, lately he has not.

Some people just like to call it as it is. Others like to over value most of the roster and especially young projects.

I don't have any particular beef with Sergio, I just think he's been wildly inconsistent with his shot and is (still) a poor fit with Roy in the backcourt. He played great tonight, and he deserves a lot of credit for really pushing the tempo and breaking the game open, but I'm still not sold on him as a long term answer as the starter; if he shows he can step it up in a grind it out, physical playoff series against a playoff style defense (and boy oh boy did we get a doozy for an opponent) then more power to him.

Having any of our point guards show they are big time players in big time moments sure will make KP's life easier this summer as he decides who to keep and who to cull.

anybody notice the big change in sergio is that he's not trying to be a 3 point shooter, instead he's taking and making more hittable shots in the key while still looking to pass first.

When I was at one of our recent games, there was somebody sitting right in front of us cheering whenever Sergio fouled somebody or had a turnover. I'd love to hear what they have to say now.

I don't even know who made the comment, but they said Sergio was worthless....not that he was playing worthless. Iirc, it was in the context of trade value. I don't know what his value is, but it not 'worthless'.

Some people just like to call it as it is. Others like to over value most of the roster and especially young projects.

But, IMHO, calling Sergio worthless is not calling it like it is. While some overvalue the prospects to one degree or another, including me, some like to give prospects time to develop, especially PG's and C's.

I've been begging for Sergio to develop a floater or a stop and pop shot for the past two years, Sessions and Miller get by pretty well with a strong mid-range game and a poor perimeter game and I think Chacho would be well served to develop some kind of consistent shot off the dribble from 12-15 feet and scrap the longball (for the most part). If he can master that (say shooting 43%+ from that distance) then it's arguable he would be a complete enough player to maybe start.

I'm somewhat anxious to see if he's able to sustain what he did tonight against a truly disciplined defensive team like Houston, versus a gambling style defense that Denver plays.

Not only does it seem Nate has loosened the reins with the bench, starting from when Blake came back into the starting lineup Nate has been urging the starters to push it more often also.

That's the biggest change the team has made and it's obviously working quite well.

I don't see why.

Just because Houston is slow and gimpy and can't run with the big boys doesn't mean we have to emulate them.

No reason on Earth we can't do to them what we did tonight, Denver is a far better team than Houston.

Denver is a gambling defense that tries to rely on swats and steals to get out into transisition. Their defensive stats may look nice in a boxscore, but they are not in any way shape or form as good of a defensive team as Houston. Houston has the ability to impose it's will on you in a way that few teams can, their biggest issue is that their offense is pretty stale without an elite playmaking wing (like T-Mac used to be).

Sergio aint gonna be running offensive sets against Houston's offense.

Sergio is what he is - a flashy, creative passer. His ast/TO ratio pales in comparison to Blake. His shooting % is bad. He is also part of the problem with our weak perimeter defense. The occasional good game doesn't negate his obvious weaknesses.

Of course not. Only one team can have the ball at a time.

He will be shredding their over-rated defense in an impressive manner though.

Pull that hair out of your eyes and you might realize how mistaken you are.
