Why?

I couldn't follow the game on Saturday night very closely.

I notice that Serg didn't hit his shots. Is this why he got yanked?
 
The only one that was hitting his long-range shots was Blake. It was not so much Sergio not playing up to form - as it was "can't take Blake out of the line-up" situation.
 
Meanwhile, Blake and Roy played Matador to Nash and Bell, and we lost the game.

Nate will never learn, will he?

Sergio was -4 in 7 minutes, shot 0%. Roy was -5 in 41 minutes, shot 43%. Blake was -2 in 37 minutes, shot 50%.

Sergio's assist to turn-over ration during his 7 minutes: 2:1. Brandon's A/TO ratio was 4:1 and Blake's 5:1.

Yes. We should have given the guy that shot 0%, had the worse A/TO ration and had more than -0.5 point per minute in the game over the only two guys that actually had any offense from the entire team and have lost us a lot less per minute when they were in.

Despite the obvious flaw in sampling 7 mins against 41 and 37 minutes and trying to make a credible point, the main point made here is Blake and Roy scored some points AT THE EXPENSE OF OUR TEAM SCORING AS A WHOLE. They monopolized the ball, looked for their own shot first, played no defense, and left the team game in the locker room. And we lost, of course.

Sergio's absence = players who are not primary ballhandlers struggle to get open shots

I didn't get a chance to watch the game. I had someone tape it, but after I saw that we lost I never got around to watching it. It just seemed like the whole team played crappy in that game. Seemed like we were off. We just don't play well in Phoenix.

So, let's see if I can follow your logic.

We made 35 shots out of 90 attempts. If we take Brandon's and Blake's attempts and makes - this leaves us with 17 out of 51. Since Blake and Roy do have some assists recorded - let's take this from the total - this leaves us with 8 out 42 made.

Now, you have just told us that Roy and Blake monopolized the shots - it is clear that this was an amazing offense there in the 7 minutes Sergio was in - what with shooting 42 times in 7 minutes. Since there were supposedly also 8 shots going in during that time - and Sergio had only 2 assists - it is clear that someone else has done a magnificent job of creating these shots during these magical 7 minutes (which surprisingly, did not see a + in the +/- stats since we know it was -4 during these magical 7 minutes - meaning that the Suns have made at least 2 more shots during these 7 minutes.

This analysis, based on your assumptions leads me to believe that the best PG we have on the team is not Sergio who got only 2 of the 8 made shots in the 7 minutes - maybe it was Greg...

Unfortunately, we also know that the Suns made at least 10 shots during these 7 minutes - leading me to think that your assertion that Sergio is a good defender is absurd.

See - even if I try to play by your funny hallucinogenic analysis - Sergio comes out looking pretty bad.

The fact of the matter is that Sergio did not have an awful game - it's just that we had 2 players with a good game - and they were Roy and Blake - so they had to stay in the game.

Props to you Andulusian for having the stones to actually engage in thorough analysis ... and oddly enough come up with the same conclusion I was too lazy to argue.

But what you are failing to account for is that in Bizzarro-basketball, you don't want your "hot hands" taking the shots, you want the coldest, least in rhythm shooters taking all of the shots -- Hopefully that should help you from now on when you see these kinds of nuggets of wisdom sprinkled on the forum.

Act like A 3 year old who never saw the game, I don't care.

If you watched the game, you can't possibly have come away with the impression that the team thrived w/o Sergio. They flat out sucked on defense, and most shots taken by the others were rushed from receiving the ball too late in the clock, or shot against doubleteams from getting the ball too late, or shot off balance from getting the ball in the wrong spot or out of rhythm.

We had a nice streak going with Sergio in the mix.

Nate reverted to his old ways and we stunk it up.

Predictable, to say the least.
 
Blake was the only one making shots. We had to leave him in there.
