If this is gravy, then where are the biscuits.
This is a very good post, and I appreciate it. However, this is the irrational optimism and rah-rah thread. This post would be better suited for one of the realistic pessimist threads. Being as it's your first post I vote we let it slide. This time.I'm a Utah Jazz fan, and I was randomly reading this thread, and felt the need to respond to this.
Do you realize that you guys had the 28th worst pick and roll defense in the league? And do you realize that the initial option on 80% of the Spurs plays are some variation on the pick and roll? The reason the Spurs are shooting so well is because they're getting wide open shots without even having to run multiple options in their sets. It's like the moment the Inital screen is set, the whole Portland defense gets Into complete disarray.
I just think your focus on hot shooting is misguided, and what you should really be focused on is your pick and roll defense, which is whats causing the Spurs role players to get so many open looks. The difference between how the Mavs defended the pick and roll , and how the Blazers are , is huge. The Spurs role players have been more comfortable in these past two games than the entire Mavs series.
This bold part confuses me. Why would the best bench in the nba be average against one of the least productive benches in the league, on a team that's almost dead last at defending the pick and roll offense?

Series ain't over guys. We just gotta BELIEVE!

just a thought on my part. apart from Ginobli who is not really a bench player, this is the Spurs bench's first playoffs together. I think Portland will come out hungry and it will take the SA bench a game to get it's feet under it again in the visiting city, that's all. Diaw is not a consistent threat for the most part. Belly has had only 2 good games this playoffs, Mills has been spotty, and Baynes was an abberation. I just think Game 3 will be more for the Big 3 then the bench.
Granted, I still think the spurs win.
Mills and Beli are the only new bench guys. Baynes only got minutes because of foul trouble. Beli has playoff exp and hit big shots in Chi. Boris is a matchup problem for any team in the NBA. Let's see here
Mills
Beli
Manu
Boris
All threats to light you up.
...and if they can't, they won't.FWIW, if the Blazers win both games in Portland I could see the Spurs faltering. They historically respond poorly to adversity during a series. Problem is I'm not sure your players can convince themselves they can win both games.

I don't know man... Our teams moral is down. The way pop has taken Aldridge out destroys the confidence of the team.
Only way I see the Blazers coming back is if Aldridge dominates at home and gets the confidence back.
Splitter has done and amazing job on Aldridge and until Aldridge overcomes that and forces Spurs to double, I just don't see it happening.
Who are the Spurs? Cmon our guys needed to rest that why we lost, 4 in a row for the Blazers now![]()
Nothing like some home cooking. Also, LA is a pro and a fighter. I can guarantee you he will want to prove himself.
If we win, I think it's in game 7. I just can't see us winning 4 in a row
