yeah, its like in video games, as soon as you come back in, you have a few moments where you're invincible.

Do you realize he just became mayor?

What does that have to do with me commenting on the city? He's been in city government for years. It's a 3 page thread with almost 100 replies, and I get called out for talking about the city.

Sam Adams is corrupt, his support is gone, and the only people defending him are the mindless partisan robots who judge an individual by the "D" or "R" in front of their name.

It's always sad when a libido gets in the way of a promising political career, but lying is lying. He violated the public trust.

lying is lying. He violated the public trust.

There would officially be three people holding elected positions in this country if this was the standard.

Personally, I'm in the middle on this. If criminal wrongdoing is discovered, he should be held accountable. If it's determined that he cannot successfully hold his position as mayor, he should step down.

But if he is able to govern appropriately, I'm willing to accept that he made a very human mistake in judgment (an absolutely disgusting and deplorable one, to be sure) and allow the guy to carry out his role as mayor. He's done plenty in his political career to prove to me that he's committed to this region.

Well I guess I don't get why you are commenting on the condition of Ptd in this thread. I read it as though you are saying it is Mayor Adams fault . . . but I guess not.

So Adams is corrupt because he lied to the public about a casual affair he was having with an 18 year old. That's fair to draw that conclusion. I disagree with that conclusion, but understand why people feel that way.

If he resigns, it's a huge loss for Ptd.

Nice strawman. You forgot the part about giving jobs to people in order to keep their mouths shut, and also the part of allowing Bob Ball to be smeared for merely telling the truth. He's toast, and it's no loss for a city that is nearing 11% unemployment.

Are you bitter? You seem to be taking pleasure in the fact he is toast when even city council memebers who are not in his corner give him credit for his work ethic and years of dedication to the city.

Did he give people jobs in order to keep theri mouths shut . . . I know it has been suggested, but I don't think that has been proved. As I said, if the investigation leads to sexual activity with a minor or official misconduct, I would change my position.

Right now the only facts know are he engaged in a casual affair with an 18 year old. Everyone is free to believe what they want, but nothing else has been established. Except you don't like downtown Ptd :D

A government downsized to three people sounds great to me, but I prefer limited government.

I don't understand why people aren't more pissed about this.

Forget the fact that he's gay. Forget the fact that the intern was a boy.

This is a 42(?) year old man having a relationship with a 17 year old intern. You don't think there's something wrong with that? Not only did he have this relationship, but he lied about it. He had someone coach the boy on how to lie about it. And then there's the whole Mercury reporter thing... This stinks to high heaven, and if he HAD in fact slept with the intern after he turned 18, why go to such lengths to lie about it?

I don't care if he's a democrat. I don't care if he's gay. If this was a 42 year old man and a 17 year old girl, people would be screaming for heads to roll.

FIRE HIS ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

eh.....whatever.....im indifferent!

I got a feeling Adams is going to resign this week . . . if not tomorrow.

What a sad situation all the way around. I so looking forward to a hard working Adams compared to a "not so hard working" Potter.

Whoever the next mayor is, better be good . . . this is a critical time for Ptd.

It seems that with two girls being gunned down last night, puts this whole "sex scandal" witch hunt into perspective.

I just want the MLS commissioner to forget this on Adams and bring MLS to Portland!

Well if Adams is not around to waste the tax payers money on a new stadium for the Beavers or for a MLS team it won't happen.

I think talking about the city and what is going on with it is valid when talking about its mayor. He has spent money like a drunken sailor... with the economy the way it is maybe we should put a hold on some spending?

I think he already has "gone down". He never said where he kissed Breedlove.

Man-boy sex, lies, rape?

The sad twisted saga of the "Paunchy Dirty Old Man" that is Mayor Sam Adams continues to explode yesterday with this newest story by Willamette Week.

In the story we learn that PDOM Sam Adams had accused his former beau (no not THAT Beau, but his "beau") John Vezina of raping his other beau, Beau Breedlove. John Vezina, who was sleeping with Adams at the time that Adams met Breedlove is now a staffer for Alaska's newly elected Democrat Senator.

Adams said it was because “I accused him of trying to rape Beau."

So to get this love triangle straight we have, potentially, another older man accused (by the admitted liar PDOM Sam Adams) of trying to force himself upon a younger man-boy.

And remember that PDOM Adams attacked Bob Ball for perpetuating the gay stereotype that homosexual men might actually be promiscuous and might actually prey on younger men.

Of course PDOM Adams' own actions, recently come to light, seem to justify that stereotype. And now... Now with Adams running around accusing his former lover, John Vezina, of attempting to rape the boy Breedlove PDOM Adams continues to further that stereotype.

It is ALSO about the sex
C'mon can I be the first to say it? Can I just admit that this entire sad and sordid affair is ALSO about the sex? No not only, but also.

The stereotype is that gay men seek multiple partners and that older gay men have this almost unquenchable appetite for YOUNGER gay partners.

PDOM Adams fits that stereotype to a tee and in his attempts to clear himself he is accusing one of his former lovers of fulfilling the stereotype as well. The book is writing itself.

Adams, an admittedly promiscuous gay man catches sight of an attractive young gay boy and his hormones begin to race. The gay boy shows interest in the older, powerful and graying Adams and his (Adams') hormones kick into a higher gear.

The Paunchy Dirty Old Man can almost not help himself now. He must have the younger man at almost any cost (meanwhile he is still sleeping with his other beau Vezina). Kissing the under age boy is barely enough and attending his 18th birthday party merely adds to the excitement of the chase (this is to assume that PDOM Adams is actually telling the truth that he had not sodomized Breedlove before his 18th birthday party).

Finally... In his mind he finally gets to legally bed the hot young man he has been fantasizing about for weeks.

In order to carry out his trist with the, barely legal, young man/boy PDOM Adams must conjur up another lie to his current lover Vezina (the lying becoming inveterate).

“I did lie to John and tell him I could not meet up with him that weekend [in July 2005] because I was going to visit my sister in Springfield,” Adams wrote in a Jan. 23 email. “But in reality I told him that so I could spend Saturday night with Beau.” (That was the weekend, Breedlove told The Oregonian in a story published Jan. 25, he spent at Adams’ house, two weeks after his 18th birthday.)

The boy, and yes even at 18 he is still a boy, cannot help himself. He notices Adams' other lover, Vezina, on the street and spills the beans that he and PDOM Adams had man/boy sex at Adams' house.

And how does the spurned lover and older man Vezina respond? Depends on who you believe.

According to the pathological liar, PDOM Adams, Vezina began a chase of his own. Conjuring up images of Phillip Stucky in the movie "Pretty Woman."

You remember the character played by Jason Alexander don't you? He finally gets fed up with the lead charachter, a much more powerful Richard Gere, sleeping with the hot prostitute Julia Roberts. Then finally at one point decides that he deserves a piece of her as well and attempts to force himself on her.

Only this time is is, according to the liar, Vezina in the role of Stucky. Perhaps enraged that he was used as a tool at the boy's birthday party?

Of course that is speculation based only on the words of PDOM Mayor Adams and Vezina adamantly denies the claims.

It has been Adams who has made it "also" about sex, and specifically the stereotypical gay sex, when he went on the attack against Bob Ball. He has done nothing to quell the stereotype.

Well nothing but lie and attempt to smear others.

So what do we see here? Do we see the stereotype playing itself out? Or are we watching the complete unraveling of Portland's mayor and are to believe that he is the exception to the "gay stereotype" rule?

....perhaps a bit of both. :) Actually the Adams thing bothers me a lot. I've never liked him or his mentor Vera Katz. Its not the fact that he is gay that bothers me, or that he fibbed about an embarassing sexual encounter. The coverup, which included the smearing of Ball, and giving a city job to a Mercury reporter to shut her up is what I don't like. Fibbing, might be understandable, but his other actions in covering up the scandal are a problem. Add to that the fact Breedlove may have been underage I think there is enough there that the mayor should resign.
