SF solution: Vince Carter?

I don't think Quick ever has inside scoop, but if there is any smoke to his trade rumor, I think it is NJ. I think that NJ would do anything to get rid of Carter's contract and get in the LJ sweepstates. I think they would include Harris to get rid of Carter and they would want Bayless in return along with Raef and filler.

That is a lot of money for Paul.

It makes sense to me, maybe they'd save enough to go through with the Brooklyn move...

Vince and Harris

for

Raef, Bayless, Outlaw

I think we would be championship contendors...

I'd pass. Lebron isn't included.

Ed O.

New Jersey throwing in a young star point guard to get rid of their not-overpaid star shooting guard?

I agree with Ed. Save LaFrentz and Outlaw for acquiring LeBron James.

haha.. wow.. we'd be ripping them off big time. I don't even know they'd do Raef/Bayless/Outlaw for Harris alone salary-matching aside. Harris is a stud.

They can't get anyone to come to their games though and Ratner (primary owner) has lost like 75% of his worth this year. This could propel them to their brooklyn move and Lebron could form his team from scratch really. They'd have the marketing of NY's trendiest borough, a large Chinese fanbase (yi), a scoring partner (Bayless) and some very high draft picks to go along with the whole thing.

If NJ likes Outlaw as much as rumored and thinks Bayless will turn out good they think about it (IMO).

I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I think LeBron would like a running partner if he were to go to NJ and Harris is their only young stud. Yi won't help bring in LeBron, Jerryd is still unproven to this point, and Travis ... well, he's a good bench guy to have.
And you add in Vince to us in the deal... that'd just be unfair... IMO.

After looking it over we would have to include around 22-23 million. So we would have to send half our team. Which we would not do. But If they wanted to fill seats, I am sure the Spanish Armanda would be of interest. (Based on the Rudy fans at the game) Rudy, Sergio, Raef, our #1. Ike and Frye would work.

But I am not a Carter fan.

Getting Devin Harris, after this break-out, would take one of the Big Three. Or, at least, Rudy, Bayless AND Batum. Either another impact player or numerous very good prospects. One good prospect, a draft pick, cap space and garbage won't do it.

And that's for Harris alone. Vince Carter is an asset, not a liability. Portland wouldn't be doing New Jersey any favours taking Carter off their hands...Carter would require value back in return.

If Portland had Harris, most of you would calling him untouchable. He's been fantastic, he's young and he plays a key position.

Opinions on Carter certainly vary to the extreme. He seems selfish to me. But I have no facts to back that up.

I cannot tell if you are serious or not about the DH and Carter trade but we could have had Bayless but picked up Brook instead.

I know we don't want big salaries on the roster but I'm sure we can find something better than Travis Outlaw for two 20 PPG scorers in which one is just entering their prime.

Agreed. How 'bout Sergio, Rudy, & Outlaw? Want Frye too? Webster? Please?

How about Carter and Najera for RLEC and Channing/Ike? (It works capwise.) They're not playing Najera, but he's a nice defender at forward.

Downside: I don't want to get rid of Travis for an aging VC, but if we don't, we've got a serious logjam.

Other Carter trades that work:
* Carter and Dooling for RLEC and Blake (I like this one - not sure about NJ, but Blake's contract expires one year before Dooling's)

* Carter and Simmons for RLEC, Ike, Channing and Webster (can you trade someone while they're injured?)

In general, the only contracts that NJ have besides Devin Harris that are (a) relatively large (>$3M) and (b) longer than to the end of the season are:

Carter ($14.7M, 4 years)
Najera ($3.3M, 4 years)
Dooling ($3.3M, 3 years)
Simmons ($10M (!), 2 years [i.e., expires Summer 2010])

They would probably be pleased to offload Sean Williams ($1.5M, 2 years) as well.

Of those players, Dooling and Simmons are both getting around 28 mpg over the last ten games, so it's not like they're DESPERATE to unload them, and they might actually be pretty reluctant to part with Dooling.

If you could get him at a low price, sure. One way to look at it is you get a solid player at the 3 spot for up to three years and then you've got another huge ending contract that can potentially be parlayed into another player in 2012.

But if they got Jerryd Bayless or Sergio Rodriguez, they'd have someone to replace Dooling. I love Dooling for his defense. Dude would definitely help us in a series against the Spurs or Hornets, which seems like the likely scenario at this point.

Actually Jerryd would be a better fit for them than Sergio. They use Dooling as a 2 sometimes I believe.

Steep price, but worth it IMO, considering we have Kopenen in the pipeline.

But they already have a top-5 point guard now.

Yep, but they're looking at cap space for the LeBron sweepstakes. LeBron is a strong magnet--he's going to bring someone else with him. Perhaps Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh?

Holy crap you are willing to put the future of the franchise, in the hands of Koponen after what you have seen this far over Bayless? You have severely gone off the deep end IMO. In case you weren't paying attention, Bayless was averaging like 30 points a game in the same league where Koponen was struggling to show he even belonged there.

For those paying attention, a guy called Pinnock filled in for Bayless for the final game... and scored 30 points. I wonder if the system they were running sort of helped Bayless pad his stats just a tad?

Also for those paying attention, Bayless played almost exclusively at SHOOTING GUARD. For those paying attention, we have two rather good players ahead of Bayless at that position. I said "almost" because they did actually try Bayless at PG for a bit. It failed disastrously, so they very quickly handed the PG reins back to a more capable point: Koponen.

It really does help to pay attention.

The only way we get rid of JB is if we get a really solid PG back. And the list is very short... in fact, I would venture there is only one name on that list...

Harris.

EDIT: I take that back, we could all use a parker, paul or rose. However, In terms of which teams we are dealing with I would say Harris is the only player (with a stretch) that we would want if we swapped out bayless.

I still dont understand the fascination with Hinrich and nothing has led me to believe Conley has a solid future.

Here's the deal I would offer if I were KP.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...~3025&teams=22~22~22~22~17~17~17~17&te=&cash=

It would also include our 2009 1st round pick. Raef is a HUGE savings for this team. They would absolutely suck and therefore be in a good position to pick up one of the really good PGs coming out this year.
I wonder how quick the Nets would hang up the phone after that offer.

Why would the Nets give up their two top players? Carter would maybe be moved in the right deal (even though he's been playing great this season), but I really don't see them giving up on Harris, unless it's in as lopsided a deal as you have the Blazers getting in this one.
