Shaedon Sharpe MRI Update

Essentially a draft and stash. I just don't see him contributing this next season at all. Let him heal and grow up a bit. He can get reps in the G league come back for summer next year.

Really a bummer as he needed game reps and practice this offseason more than any player on the roster.

Is he going to be injury prone? Sure didn't seem like much contact.

Probably eliminates any ideas of trading him now for a starter.

Where would he be drafted if they redrafted today? I'd think 15-20 range.

You think he would drop that far because of a fluke injury?

Good thing they don't re-draft things after not even 3 weeks.

So you think a guy who only got drafted on what he'd done in highschool a year ago would drop 8-13 picks because he has an injury that is rarely if ever a recurring one with any residual effects? I get it that you're trying to keep a narrative going but let's try and be logical while trying to prove our points.

I'd also like to point out to everyone that the same group of people who nabbed Jabari Walker with the penultimate pick in this draft are the same guys who took Sheadon with the seventh pick and acted like they'd won a chip in their draft room when they saw he'd dropped to them. We should also wait and see what's said in a week or week and a half before pronouncing his season dead.

Yeah, When they selected SS the whole room acted like they got their guy. Mike Schmitz is probably as connected as anyone in the league with regard to young talent.
Everyone says that but i'm telling ya'll....the Las Vegas Raiders just went through this with Mike Mayock. He was pretty decent at finding guys in later rounds that were useful but a train wreck at early picks.

I'm very hopeful and optimistic with Sharpe.

It just is not a sure thing Schmitz is always gonna hit. And in Mayocks case, he wasn't a draft guy ranking players anymore so the argument when he reached on someone was "they would have been ranked higher if he was still doing mock drafts." Usually was an excuse by fans to justify a reach.

Obviously a smidge different because Schmitz isn't in full control. But, he was obviously hired for a reason.

good points. Mike has been in the trenches with respect to prospects and I would think he is well connected with evaluators of talent.
We'll have to wait and see just what kind of player he'll become.
Ive watched many of the summer league games and feel that if he hadn't got hurt he would have performed well after a half or so. He's made for summer league, as its an up and down game where guards and wings can razzle dazzel.

Where do you guys think Sharpe would go today if redrafted?

Players move all up and down the draft boards in the weeks around the draft. A player being out with an injury for an unknown duration possibly into his first rookie season would fall a lot IMO. Somebody like Duren still has tons of potential and that is 6 spots after Sharpe but with zero injury concerns so its certainly possible him and a number of others would jump. It's not as if these other potential draft picks have no upside. Even if healthy Sharpe has a chance of being a bust.

I'm hoping we get good news on Sharpe when re-evaluated and he can be 100% before camp. This is about as disappointing of a first few weeks of being a Blazer he could've had though.

Any news on when we will get something definitive on Sharpe's injury and how long until he's back? Also, the Chicken Little's in here. Yeesh.

He's young and has a good support system, he achieved his dream and this wont keep him from blossoming into a great player. The kid has that it factor too.

Jury is for sure still out on Sharpe, but it wasn't a reach to take him at 7 though. When swinging for home runs there are bound to be strike outs too. I don't mind that strategy.

I will say Jay Bilas saw a Kentucky practice too and came away raving about Sharpe. Not sure why his workouts didn't go great for other teams but he wowed everyone here, including Dame. I don't think they take him if it's just Schmitz that liked him there.

Its crazy how many injuries there are in the NBA, every year it's a crap shoot on who's next.

I think Shaedon would be drafted in the 3rd round.

Young guys have to adjust to the superior athletes and physicality of even a summer league game ... and expectations of professionalism ... and travel ... and 82 games instead of 30+ ... and ...
Seeing Sharpe now just makes me wonder what he can be in 2-3 years. It will be about work ethic and grit.

He has a sprained shoulder. He will be fine. He's young and should heal quickly. With help from the training staff, he will build that shoulder, and his whole body, to be stronger and better able to whether these type of dings. It's a bummer we don't get to see him in the SL, but we need not make a mountain out of a mole hill. Get Well soon Shaedon.

It's not sprained it's torn. Nas had surgery because of this exact injury. Same with Collins (although Collins's was worse).

There's also different levels of tears. I had an MRI done ony shoulder and had a bunch of tiny tears, but not surgery required tears. Rest and PT.

6-10 days and then we should have a time table. It could just take 4 weeks to heal and 4 weeks of rehab from the time of the injury, which would have him ready for training camp. It could take surgery and be six months from then that he plays again.
