Sharpe Comps

He’s a quiet guy but I’m not sure if I agree that he doesn’t have swagger or competitiveness or drive. He’s quiet like Kawhi. I’m not sure how that projects for his future. The truly great players tended to be more extroverted like Jordan or Kobe or LeBron. Kareem was pretty quiet though, right? Duncan was quiet.
I thought he demonstrated an aggressiveness in trying to posterize Rudy!

He APPEARS to be missing the swagger, competitiveness, drive, etc. Not saying it's not there in some form, but you like to see these things far more evident and obvious, basically right away.
Guys like Mathurin or Ant Edwards - that's what I want to see out of a potential star.

Basketball-wise, doesn't quite have the passing/court vision, handles or on-ball defense that Kobe had as a 19 year old.

Most importantly, I want to see Sharpe elevate his defensive game. Being elite on both ends is what makes a superstar that can carry a team deep into the playoffs, and makes such a huge +/- positive difference.
I see what you mean now in term of swagger. Like I said he will be closer to dame in term of competitiveness and swagger once he get more confident in his game.
About basketball skills, Kobe played basketball his whole life. His dad was a pro. Kobe played against pro growing up. Sharpe didn’t have that. Heck I believe he didn’t start playing basketball till high school. The fact that Sharpe is making a strong comparison to rookie Kobe is very impressive.
Now I do agree that it’s his defense that will separate him from his peers. I’m hoping he can get stronger in the off season and study films. I think this will help his defense tremendously. Getting stronger will also help his offense

Ya i think its a bit baseless to think hes not aggressive just because he doesnt have Kobes outward charisma.

I see Shaedon repeatedly trying to get out on breaks to get massive dunks and blocking the shit out of guys on fast breaks. He's been in this role for like 3 weeks. Too early to write him off

Honestly, that's why I see the Paul George comp as best-fitting, as I remember a young Paul George being similarly withdrawn on the court as well (and he was even a year or two older when he arrived to Indiana). Let's just hope he can avoid turning into the fake-tough, whiny, and shrink in big playoff moments Paul George.

By "outward charisma" do you mean "internal narcissism"?

My personal experience is that when someone dies tragically while they are still young, all manner of sins for forgiven/forgotten.

Even when they likely caused the deaths of multiple people via their arrogance? From my understanding, throughout his career Kobe loved to fly everywhere in a helicopter. I recall stories of him landing on the football field of his HS girlfriend Vanessa (later his wife) during her Senior year. While the coverage of the crash blamed everything on his longtime pilot's decisions to go up in bad weather, is it any sort of stretch to think his egomaniac client was telling him to do it regardless of the weather and thereby put 8 other lives at risk? Hell, I just looked up the story to get the number of dead right and even the CNN article linked below alludes to this probability. Seriously, fuck that guy

On the thread topic, I'm surprised no one has mentioned who Shaedon has stated he sees his game most like... Bradley Beal. He's even bouncier then BB, but is about the same size and has a lot of the same smooth off the dribble skills. Thats my pick

I like what I am seeing from Sharpe as his confidence grows. He is not 'loud', but I do see him talk to/with teammates. Tonight, in about his last play before he was yanked for tanking purposes, he went to Shaq Harrison and took responsibility for a lead pass that ended up with Harrison getting blocked at the rim.

Quiet confidence seems to be growing.

Yeah just rewatching some of the highlights from tonight and this dude definitely has swag. I also love his passes. At 19 he’s a more complete player than CJ ever was.

What I see in his style a well as his demeanor is a young Dr J. Smooth game..heady player, quiet assassin..like Dr J this kid will be a heartthrob..

I miss the days when we didn't have to pretend Kobe wasn't an insufferable asshole.
I will never forget the play where Kobe threw an elbow into Steve Blake's throat, and the ref called a foul on Steve Blake's throat. Classic.

Funny thing is, you don't have to pretend anything. Fuck Kobe, he was a rapist.

How was he a rapist he could fuck anybody he wanted? Plus she took the money and dropped the charges. Looks like she knew what she was doing

I don't know if anybody has it anymore but the police report with the money being paid so she would drop it was pretty damning. She claimed to have consensual sex with Kobe and then Kobe wanted her to take it in the ass and she didn't want to, so he forced her to. That is rape dude. Yeah she couldn't turn down the payday, I'm sure part of her felt like she deserved being raped because women get slut shamed a lot. Anyway, I don't know how many NBA players, other athletes or rock stars have done that sort of thing and got away with it but I'm pretty damn sure Kobe did it.

Not trying to make this thread about that piece of trash, but you are very wrong on this one.

Wow, I briefly took him off ignore to read this. Now I remember why I had him on ignore. Jesus Christ.

Most of these comps are good, I wonder what Hail Mary trade Cronin is gonna ship him out in.

I said a blend of VC and Brandon Roy and I still like that quite a bit. I've seen McGrady thrown around (which feels similar).
I can see that, although calling him "a more athletic Brandon Roy" is ridiculously high praise (or shows that we've forgotten how great Roy was). But it's true he's more athletic (although Roy could throw it down when he wanted, before his knees went, but Sharpe is another level) and it's also true that he has a sweet jumper and is currently showing that he can get to the basket pretty much at will. Maybe what separated Roy was his clutchness and ability to slow the game down to the speed he wanted. But when he was Sharpe's age he was pulling his name out of the draft having met with wide derision for putting it in in the first place.

Absolutely, far too early to put any of the mental/drive type of stuff we saw from Kobe and BRoy on Shae, but athletically, he's special. Count me in the group that hopes we hang onto him for a very long time...
