So now Unions issue death threats and partake in mob violence and kidnapping when they lose jobs to other Union "brothers"?

Awesome. Imagine what it will be like if the economy sinks into a great depression.

LONGVIEW, Wash. (AP) — Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.

Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.....

The blockade appeared to defy a federal restraining order issued last week against the union after it was accused of assaults and death threats.

are you really surprised? they're called union thugs for a reason.

There's a documentary called "Hoffa" with Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito that you should watch. Very insightful.

Unions have outlived their purpose.

A friend of mine works for a grocery distribution center in Clackamas. He is a high school drop out and makes $25.00 an hour plus incredible benefits. Almost impossible for him to be fired as well. For those of you doing the math at home, $25.00 an hour = a little over $50,000.00 a year. The job is physical, but there is really no skill needed to do the job. While it's great that those employees make a decent living, there is no way they should make anywhere near that much for what they do. Including overtime and holiday pay, my friend made a little over $60k last year.

New campaign slogan:

Vote for Democrats in 2012 or you end up with broken legs.

Vote for Republicans in 2012 AND you'll have broken legs and no health care to help you.

Whoops!

The percentage of American adults who lack health insurance coverage has not only increased during the presidency of Barack Obama, but it has continued to increase since Obama signed his signature piece of legislation last year mandating that by 2014 every American carry health insurance, according to a Gallup survey [2] released today.

In 2008, when George W. Bush was president, according to Gallup [3], 14.9 percent of adult residents of the United States lacked health insurance coverage. That increased to 16.2 percent in 2009, the year that Obama was inaugurated, and to 16.4 percent in 2010, the year that Obama signed his law requiring that all Americans have health insurance.

In the first half of this year, according to data released by Gallup today, the percentage of adults in the United States lacking health insurance ticked up to 16.8 percent.

That conclusion is based on Gallup's interviews with 177,237 American adults from January through June of this year. The interviews were part of the ongoing Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index survey.

GOP: no broken legs and more of you insured!

shit, if he doubles his income, he'll barely be middle class. :MARIS61:

apparently you need to get a sense of humor.

The truth is always the most funny thing. :)

Anyhow, if you read what Masbee posted, it seems like things got out of control this morning in Longview. Scary stuff, and a sign of things to come.

Just heard that Trumka is going to be Obama's guest tonight at the speech.

Poor Barry can't catch a break. Union members act like animals this morning, and that night, the face of US unions is the President's guest for his latest bunch of words.

Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) has invited the CEO of Gibson Guitars as her guest. Brilliant.

There are about 50 million uninsured today. This trend didn't start the day Obama took office:

40 years ago when somebody had a blue collar job that made him the equivalent of $60k/year, enough to support a stay-at-home wife, a couple kids who were college-bound, and a house in a decent neighborhood, it wasn't even that remarkable. Now it's practically a crime.

Depressing.

Unskilled laborers should not make that much money.

I think all Americans should make a decent living. I just don't think uneducated men and women should make more money than men and women who teach our children in schools.

Why does this remark strangely remind me of the movie Back To School?

Oddly, it was exactly 40 years ago we went off the gold standard.

The more money govt. is allowed to print, the worse anyone's buying power. But if you own assets, they go up in price, too. That's why the stock market is going up.

So you think blue collar people should make less while I think white collar people (like teachers) should make more.

Our economy isn't screwed up because a few grocery clerks make $60k/year. It's screwed up because real wages for most Americans have been stagnating for decades, while wealth among the elite continues to skyrocket. We were able to fake it for a while by doing things like doubling the workforce (adding women), priming the economy with bad real estate loans and other forms of consumer debt, etc.

But at some point, the only ones who can afford to buy stuff are the top 10-30% of all people holding wealth. Consumer demand is crushed. And you get the economy we have now.

What does that have to do with the percentage increasing since ObamaCare was signed into law?

If a chart is trending up between 1987 and 2009, it's not exactly a shock that it continues to trend up between 2010 and 2011.

There was a universal health care bill passed in 2009 tho.

The white collar clerical types on this board amaze me. This country needs middle class! My dad's friend is one of those longshoreman.

Why does that bother you?

Which mostly doesn't take effect until 2014.

I thought that was an amazing little side fact when it came to this debate. Sure, some companies might be using it as an excuse for not hiring people, but those companies tend to look for excuses to fire people left and right.

it's easier to blame those on your economic level, then it is to accept that those above you are the ones who caused things.

in other words, pay no mind to the man behind the curtain!
