Terrible! So he just went in to kill random people? Like a columbine? I've never understood that mentality. If your suicidal and pissed off, why not at least target someone that has wronged you in the past, why go after random people?

On the gun debate, what makes you think making guns illegal would work any better than making drugs/alcohol illegal? If some maniac with a gun were rampaging through my neighborhood, I'd like to have my .357 by my side.

But remember, guns don't kill people. So those three people just died of shock.

Yeah, but I've never heard of anyone dying from a weapon just sitting there in a gun rack....or sorts.

Seriously people? Seriously? This happened three hours ago and you're already starting in on the anti-gun debate? Show some fucking respect.... holy shit.

Maybe that's why the anti-gun debate never happens in this country. It's always three hours from some fatal shooting. Who are we disrespecting?

All the other countries, where gun fatalities are a miniscule fraction of here?

Well, it certainly applies.

Of course it applies.... but three hours after it happened?

Do you hop on here and criticize alcohol or cars when someone is killed by a drunk driver? You have an agenda and you decided to forward that agenda as soon as you heard that this happened. Why can't you just post that it's sad that this happened and leave it alone?

The gun was in someone's hands when it discharged.

At any rate, in situations such as today's tragedy, people kill people. Such a sad state of affairs we're having to endure these days. I'm still not quite over the Aurora, CO shootings...and now this.

Ah, the Glen Beck analogy. So the shooter was equivalent to a drunk driver? Really? Presumably this drunk driver put on a flack jacket and drove into a mall on purpose. Oh, and this was a special car that is designed especially for killing people. If that was true, I think I'd be opposed to that.

Of course it's sad when people die. It's also sad that people are able to do things like this much more often and more easily than in any other country because every single elected official jumps when the NRA says "jump".

Thanks for letting me know that guns shoot themselves.

By the way, does anyone else find the constant insertion of opposition to the Second Amendment when there's a tragedy like this pathetic? How about pausing for a second and thinking of the victims before trying to push a political point.

Edit: I read the rest of the thread and saw my points were already brought up by Nate and ABM.

And if it had been a knife, I'm sure the father would just have lunged and stabbed his kid to death anyway, right?

Using easily available high-powered guns.

And sadly there is no conceivable way to prevent it. All those other countries are just lucky.

The guy is clearly an outlier. More people were likely killed in knife attacks today.

Still, a tragedy.

I'm sure you were thinking this throughout the whole Benghazi thing, right? "Show some class, Fox News - stop trying to politicize tragedy!"--outraged maxiep

america has a culture of violence and murder ingrained in our minds, if guns were illegal, people would just use illegal guns to do things like this

Exactly what I was thinking.

Are you really comparing leaving a consulate undefended in a hostile and unstable country with someone shooting up a mall? M'kay.

maybe he is implying that muslims and the clackamas shooters are both mentally unstable.

Don't think he was at all making a comparison of the two events specifically, more a comment on politicizing a tragedy.

Would that be the whole religion thing, you think? Because, after all, that's the other thing the US is starkly different from other first-world nations in.

Makes sense, given that whole Abraham-Isaac thing.

Asking why a consulate was undefended in a country where we knew there was a strong Al Qaeda presence is not "politicizing" an issue. If anything, the Obama Administration politicized it by manufacturing the idea it was caused by a video.

Exactly what I was thinking.

The Pilgrims had to kill each other with sticks. It was damn hard work. Finally somebody invented firearms. "Praise Jesus!" they cried, "now we can realize our ingrained bloodthirst more efficiently!"

Of course not. And I'm sure you're asking that about all the others right now. In fact, you're just as angry at the Republican-led congress, you're so non-political.

nevermind, don't care.
