Is this a new phenomenon? Lillard, Babbitt, and Curry do it all the time. Nate Robinson just did it. I don't remember seeing this as much before the last season or two. In Lillard's 37 point game in Oakland, he pulled up like 5 to 6 feet behind the three point line at one point. And hit it, of course. Who started this?

Its nothing new but it just doesn't happen to often. Usually you see it from PG/SG that are in there first couple of years do it when they feel "it". Billups used to do it a lot I think your just noticing it more because its been more prevalent on our team as of late. Ray Allen would also do it a lot when he got a pick but the picker came out to the three point line.

Yeah, Billups used to BOMB it. It was insane. Iverson did it a lot too. Same with Mike Bibby and Jason Williams. And I mean, Hail Mary status bombs.

If you make a couple of them, it really stretches the defense. And people rarely come out to guard you that deep until you've hit a few, so they tend to be very wide open shots.

Before the 3-point line, Jerry West used to shoot from several feet behind the 3-point line.
