Oh lookie! Fox managed to find a Black man no one has heard of with no credentials who said no such thing as systemic racism and slavery not about race!

Ironically slavery in America was new precisely for being about race. Slavery was around for millennia but slaves were generally people conquered in battle. No racial mythology, just what conquerers did to conquered. African slave trade and New World slavery were hard to reconcile with alleged message of Jesus. So racial myth of Black inferiority, mental and moral, Black people don't really feel pain, don't care for their children, are inherently suited to slavery. Which it is now a crime to teach.

There are states where it is taught slaves were happy and loved the masters. In the 21st century.

Well, you keep working on that approach and I'll keep working with the Woodson Center. Together, we'll cover ALL the bases!

Never heard of Woodson Center so I looked it up. Religious organization that produced sanitized 1776 history that won't upset white people. I asked you a series of questions about it but got no reply.

The Woodson Center is owned and run by the Heritage Foundation.

Oklahoma has voted to revoke teaching credentials of any teacher who talks about racism. At a school board meeting, a parade of Karens cried about how their children shouldn't hear things that made them uncomfortable. The ban passed four to one with all white members in favor and sole Black board member against. A college course in race in America history was also cancelled.

Didn't we hear for years about the evil of cancel culture?

This is interesting considering the federal ruling about how much of tribal lands are now going to fall back under native American jurisdiction. I wonder if they're going to try and apply this to what the tribes are going to teach in tribal schools? You can't even come close to discussing how all those Native Americans ended up in Oklahoma without having a discussion on racism.

There were reeducation camps for native kids there where they were taught to be....white.

It appears our poll results are pretty fairly balanced.

I looked around and couldn't find it. Show me again where the Heritage Foundation owns/operates the Woodson Center(?)

@SlyPokerDog, were you able to find that? I'm interested in knowing the situation. Thanks.

The videos about the Woodson thing you posted were from the Heritage Foundations youtube account. That's what lead me to find the connection. One that we've discussed a few times before.

Up until 2019 they shared an office on K Street in DC.

And...

Press announcements about the Woodson Center are done at and or by the Heritage Foundation.

They are most definitely intertwined.

Oh, I definitely know they're affiliated in certain ways. It was the part where you said the Woodson Center was owned and operated by the Heritage Foundation that I was uncertain of.

In terms of press announcements, the Woodson Center definitely does their own. All of them? I'm not certain of that.

So, you're somehow trying to discount/undermine the Woodson Center because they have some affiliation with the Heritage Foundation? I'm not gettin' that at all.

Again, I don't see where the Heritage Foundation "owns" and "runs" the Woodson Center.

I am discounting a sanitized view of history that pretends everything is uplifting so white people won't be uncomfortable.

No problem. You roll with your efforts and I'll roll with mine.

Undermine?!? I wish I was that powerful, lol.

Discount?

You bet I am.

I'm all about teaching history so long as we don't get stifled in it. I'm all for learning and finding meaningful solutions moving forward. This is what I love about such organizations such as the Woodson Center and 1776 group. They are results-driven organizations. There are many Black people today - many - who are fighting to help other Blacks realize and understand that there are endless opportunities to succeed in this great land of ours, while also understanding that what happened back then.....happened back then. It doesn't have to continue to happen today, so let's roll up our sleeves and effect positive change. That's the wonderful message of 1776 and Woodson.

Virtually all world nations and cultures have terrible, terrible pasts. I mean, as an example, look at the Jews. Now THERE'S an overcoming people group!

PS: Yes, I financially support the Woodson Center.

Bro! Are you suggesting that blacks in America have not had to overcome?

Teaching us the facts up in here.

No at all! What I am saying, though, is that I'd much rather spend my time fostering love and a unified future with my black brothers and sisters, as opposed to cramming dark, hateful history into their heads. The future is NOW not BACK THEN! It's one of the reasons I fully support the efforts of the Woodson Center, 1776 Unites, and others.

Cramming dark hateful history into their heads. What an utterly condescending statement. You think Black people don't know their history? Or the systemic racism that exists now? Do please try whitesplaining somewhere other than sports boards among a nearly all white audience.

Don't talk about slavery, Jim Crow, lynching, or voter suppression going on right now. Ignore it and it goes away!

Don't upset white people.

I do think Winston Churchill said it best,

“Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

But instead of doomed, I think there is a certain segment of this CRT pearl-clutching that would be very happy to repeat it.

Meanwhile, don't forget to keep a hopeful, watchful eye on some of the positive efforts other folks are doing. It's not all wrong, nor in vain. Try your best not to scoff.

I mean, I guess that's one way to approach it. But I've never been one to bury my head in the sand. As a matter of fact, it's that ugly history which my people survived and in some ways thrived (think soul food and negro spirituals) which make me proud. Growing up, it was truly a source of pride in that we KNEW we were strong for the simple fact of what we'd gone through. Also, it does not have me walking around here fueled by anger or hate and that was taught to me by my mother. She was born into 1930's Alabama, then moved as a teen to 1940's Oregon, probably the most racist state outside of the south. And she still managed to have love for EVERYONE. Talk about overcoming.

Wow.

Thank you for sharing and much love and respect to your mom.

Press announcements are now a dime a dozen, so that don't mean a thing.
