Should the Blazers re-sign Jusuf Nurkic this summer?

Nurkic didn't play in the end and Zach is coming on strong. Just saying.
Nurk was very pissed at the refs and ever since he run into Adams, he didnt looked like himself... nothing to see there, not the first or the last time one player will play bad after he gets frustrated...

Bobby Marks: The more I watch Zach Collins, the more I feel that Jusuf Nurkic could be expendable this summer. Especially if the money for Nurkic in FA becomes unrealistic.

If that happens, Olshey will regret that he didn't take my advice and trade him when he had some value. Olshey has the team in a bad place; he can't trade the bad contracts he has, so the only way he can save money is to not sign the young guys, like Nurkic and Napier (and Vonleh). Hopefully Allen will allow him to go very deep into luxury tax territory for a couple years waiting for Turner and Leonard contracts to expire.

I thought you might ask: Bobby Marks (born July 9, 1973) is the NBA Front Office Insider for ESPN, previously performing this position for Yahoo! Sports' The Vertical. He had previously spent 20 years working in the NBA, the last five as assistant general manager of the Brooklyn Nets. Marks began his work for ESPN in July 2017.[1]

I really like the Nurk. I hope this team can sign him for a reasonable contract. $12-14m / year is what he should be signed for.

Of course, if someone is going to throw the max at him, you probably have to let him go. But, who would do that?

I wouldnt be suprised if he’s signed for around 10mil a year. There’s just barely any teams with money to spend and the ones that do have it are unlikely to throw it at Nurkic. He could come at a huge bargain.

The tweet. I think he is right if the price for Nurk is TOO crazy

lol he is deluded

theres no way POR let Nurk walk, whatever contract he gets, well match the offer and hell be given next 4 years to show himself... POR could have something special with Nurk & Collins combo and you SIMPLY DO NOT PASS ON IT!

if we let Nurk walk, is there a guarantee Collins will be our COTF, of course not... but lets say that happens, well need both PF & SF, but if not, well need C, PF & SF... so the best possible move POR can make is to sign Nurk and play Collins in the starting lineup from the next season, or at least give him minutes with Nurk... let them play together, develop chemistry etc

imagine, just imagine how good our defense could be with Nurk & Collins down the road and I think they would compliment each others game on offense... Collins has perimeter game, Nurk can play down low... YOU DO NOT LET NURK WALK WHATSOEVER!

right on...Nurk is still a youngster and he and Collins in two years will be real tough on both ends, in side outside, pick your poison.

Im not bothered when outsiders are talking bullshit about POR, theyre not following this team as close as we do, but when our own fans are talking bullshit, well, I cant understand that whatsover...

Oh, well shit then. If a guy who signed off on sending BOS 3 unprotected 1sts and a swap for Garnett and Pierce, the Lillard-for-Crash trade, who with the couple of 1sts he had left over drafted Chris McCulloch (who spent more minutes in the D-League than the NBA) and Plums, who traded Plums and Connaughton for RHJ and who decided he'd rather have D'Angelo Russell than Kuzma and Brook Lopez...if he thinks Nurk is expendable, I have to listen.

The Blazers have good chemistry and a promising front court. Have to keep Nurk/Ed/Zach. It's not even a question. Meyers is a good emergency towel waiver and the jury is still out on Swanigan. I'd be happy to enter next season with those five.

Paul Allen will match.

Bingo! Always funny to see national media guy talking about how talent in Portland is expendable so as to see the Blazers become a weaker franchise. If there is someone good, the National media seems to think said player should book when his contract is up. It's asinine to think the Blazers won't sign a talented, developing, YOUNG, center to keep the ship rolling in the right direction. ASININE!

I wouldn't worry. We can sign and trade nurk if absolutely necessary.

Do we have enough money to keep Jusuf? Do we have to let go of a few players to be able to sign him? It seems that this team has found its grove. We now have some combinations that can be deployed against various teams. I actually saw guys play defense during this winning streak. How can we give Leonards money to Nurk?
I'm thinking that the Hornets might make a run at Nurk. Howard is coming off their books.

We can pay Nurk whatever it takes as he is a restricted free agent and we can go over the cap to sign him. The Hornets are over the cap for next year (they still have one more year of Howard).

Sign and trades are tricky when hovering around the tax line. The Blazers would have to be under the tax apron at the conclusion of the trade and I believe it would trigger a hard cap meaning we would be limited on other moves. I'd be surprised if we were in a position to do a sign and trade either with our own players or going after someone else's players

Marks was let go in 2015 so any moves since then would be unfair to pin on him.

I really, really, really don't understand why people like Marks make it sound like we only need one big man. This team doesn't have enough talent to let a guy averaging 14 and 8 with great defense walk for nothing. The Blazers are planning on paying the tax next year. That is why they gave Vonleh away to get under it this year. Like I said earlier in this thread: let Collins continue to play PF, re-sign Nurk as the starting center, and re-sign Davis as the backup center. It doesn't have to be complicated and we don't have to get rid of one just because one of the others is playing well.

The question is what is reasonable and will he sign it.

Answer is still yes you sign him to a deal.
We're not talking about Allen Crabbe whos only shown to be a spot up shooter with some questionable defensive ability.

Nurk will get a max offer and we will match. We have to.

I'm with you.

Nurkic has quietly upped his PER to 17.8, the second highest on the team (3rd if you're swish3 and think Meyers counts), and has racked up the best Defensive Plus/Minus on the team. Once he figures out what to do with that strange orange boulder when he gets it on offense, he'll be intensely good.
