I been talking with Wheels (The S2 member, not the Blazer announcer) on Twitter and just found out that Timbers fans use Rip City Till I Die as one of their motto's.

That's lame! Rip City is Blazer basketball. It's not soccer.

Those pitch bitches need to step off!

Uh, the Timbers should use Lob City. Yep, that works for me. Rip City = Blazers, nuff said.

I think it originated as Rose City Till I Die. In fact, I'm certain the majority of Timber fans see it as Rose City Till I Die. Wheels, what the hell? You know that.

Being as I work for the Timbers I can tell you it is Rose City til I die. So, back off SLY!!!

Snooze City seems more appropriate for soccer.

Its Rose City Til I Die. NOT Rip City. The Timbers Army is about all things Portland. Rip City is specific to basketball. I don't know one member of the TA that thinks its Rip City Til I Die.

Tonight, the TA hada gathering at the winterhawks game. They had something like 3 sections reserved. They are doing it at the Rose Garden also this season for a Blazers game. I can't say that I have seen such civic support from Blazers faithful. Hate soccer all you want, but the TA is dedicated to the Timbers and all things Portland and Oregon.

Oh Sly... you facetious Bastard! :)

ok the run down for you who dont care... on teh Twitterz an influx of Blazer fans now feel the need to use/claim #RCTID as Blazers related, when a good chunk probably didnt give a crap about #Rose City or anything until it was "Cool" to do so (queue Maris' hitting "Post Quick Reply") there has been a Twitterz war of words with Blazer fans saying that it means the same thing for both Blazer fans and Timbers fans since its Portland, so they apply it and claim it however they want.

I made a comment last night on how some Blazer fans are laughing it off like they dont care, but I find it both ironic and hypocritical that those people (not all Blazer fans) dont care about claiming it, when a good portion of Blazermaniacs were livid when Rip Hamilton was doing his whole Rip City deal around their title run.

:) I do know that dont worry  I have been at the forefront of defending #RCTID on the twitterz

Maybe they can go with "Kick City". It kinda rhymes.

for the actual record since some are taking this as serious. The only actual #ripcity Timbers stuff has been in response to the spammin og #rctid I.E. I made a Timbers related one and hashtagged it #Ripcity #Tebow #TomBradysHair #RCTID #Romney all from the same tweet.

The Timbers and Timbers fans don't use "Rip City" in relation to the Timbers. This is silly.

*disclaimer... except in retaliation recently to the #RCTID spamming done

I don't see how it would fit -- Bill Shonley came up with the name as a alternative to a ball "swishing" through the net.

:edit:

Actually it would fit perfectly.

I had a brain lapse there. I totally forgot about the soccer goals. Shows how much I follow soccer!

LOL, that's funny. Believe it or not I didn't know where rip came from.

You obviously have not watched a game with the Army.

Have never heard any chant or reference to Rip City for the Timbers. Have never heard RCTID in relation to the Blazers either. Have seen it numerous times on the Timbers board as well as in our chants, which are 100¿ better than the very unoriginal "defense" and "let's go blazers".

What's the story on this kid we drafted today?

Shit. There's two minutes of my life I'll never get back.

I remember Bill Schonley saying it was something he used to say when he was a baseball announcer after someone hit a line drive.

I have a hard enough time watching college bball, so I do nothing outside of watching the Timbers and participate in Army volunteer/drinking events. The Soccer City USA site is saying he only had two years of experience and is a pretty big project. Biggest thing was trading Cooper, getting a #1 next year, and allocation money for a signing that is heavily rumored for next week. Merritt Paulson has been tweeting pretty frequently about it and would not do anything to cross the Army. Heck, he even came out to the Shed Culture variety show for a sketch.

I think Wheels was having a bad day or something because I know for a fact that he knows it's Rose and not Rip. Been right next to him after conceding a goal too many times FAMS

So it's some sort of warp in the fabric of the Twitterverse or something? Got it...I think.

I see no problem with both teams using the RCTID references, with the Timbers using Rose City, and Blazers using Rip City. I also see no problem with Timbers fans being a little miffed at it. I just wish both teams fan bases would accept each other and embrace both. No point in having a "my dick is bigger than your dick" contests.
