Should we have traded 2007 Draft Pick for Tim Duncan?

People always talk about how we should’ve drafted Durant, but what about the trade the Spurs offered us? What was the best move there? Drafting Durant or trading for Duncan?

Drafting Durant was on my mind at that time when Oden got injured but prior to it the draft choice was not as relevant for me. We should have acquired Duncan for his skillset and his model behavior. All class!

Yeah I can't believe that Pop would have actually traded Duncan. Not for Oden. Maybe Pop was really interested in Durant but I still don't believe Pop actually called KP and inquired about trading Duncan. Not for one second.

Do you really think Pops would trade Duncan? He was still in his prime then and was like a son to pops. From what I also recall it was a rumor being spread by Quick with no name involved and everyone speculated it was Duncan.

I have it on good authority that the Spurs inquired about the pick. They did win one title after that but by then, Duncan was a shell of his former self and Leonard was far and away the MVP. Can you imagine Durant (if that is who they chose) and Leonard over that last 7+ years? Damn!

They would've taken Oden. Every one would have taken Oden and if they say otherwise they are lying and using hindsight.

Almost everyone. I know one pretend GM that has picture proof of whom they would have taken...and it wasn't Oden.

Fear. Go with the most popular choice. Takes balls to go KD for GMs at that time. People have a short memory. Different era too. Big men were valuable. Nowadays it’s a no brainer Kd.

Orlando would't have taken Oden because they had Howard. And Phoenix might have taken Durant over Oden because he would have fit D'antoni's system like a glove and they had Amare inside.

but other than those two teams, I'd bet 28 others would have went for Oden, even Boston contrary to the spin out of there

as it turned out, Portland winning the lottery was a curse. They could have finished 2nd and got Durant. They could have finished 3rd and got Horford. Either would have made those Roy/Aldridge teams exciting. Losing the value of that #1 pick coupled with only getting 4 good years out of the 6th pick and Roy set the franchise back big time, especially when you factor in the Blazers had a 3rd pick in 2005 and turned it into Martell Webster

2006 - #4 --> Aldridge
2006 - #7 --> Roy
2007 - #1 --> Oden
2008 - #11 --> Bayless

5 years after drafting Roy, Aldridge was the only one of those still on the team. That has to be a historically bad result

Yeah, it's pretty common to trade a pick for 2 picks 12 and 14 years into the future.

a rumor from a forum? If that's the case then look at all the rumors in this forum. They must all be true. Sorry, but a link from a forum hardly sells me on the idea that Spurs were offering Duncan. Much of these rumors were started from a Quick interview and history has shown him not to be very reliable with info.

Not possible. The Blazers didn't draft Bird because he refused to sign with us and still had a year of eligibility to go back to college.
