Not possible. The Blazers didn't draft Bird because he refused to sign with us and still had a year of eligibility to go back to college.

ok, but MM was proposing a hypothetical based upon alternate reality. Stop being a kill joy with my alternate reality by bringing up real reality

my next stop on the way back machine would be a few years later. In 1984, Portland chooses Jordan instead of Bowie. The Blazers then convince Sabonis to come over 5 years earlier when the USSR first allowed it. Then, Portland agrees to trade Kersey and Robinson for Charles Barkley, instead of refusing the deal. And the Blazers run with a lineup of Porter-Jordan-Drexler-Barkley-Young Sabonis and win 8 straight titles...or 10

also, I don't marry either of my ex-wives and I buy Apple and Amazon stock in 1998. I'm telling you, that's a better reality then the one I'm stuck in

See that is better because it was actually possible.

The relevant trade opportunity with substance, as I recall, was prime Garnett. Oden was so highly thought of as a prospect, despite the revisionist memory of many people, that that was quickly dismissed. Two rings for Boston the next three years puts Oden's value into perspective.

Didn't Boston only win one?

Almost everyone. I know one pretend GM that has picture proof of whom they would have taken...and it wasn't Oden. :bgrin:

I don't believe it. If it wasn't Oden he would have taken to the dance, why would he save his dick picture?

I can't imagine local Draft guru D69 was the only one who did as much research as he did and came away with Durant being "the obvious" choice. He had a list of reasons as to why and I can't believe he was the only one with that information or thought process.
How is he? I remember when he was the mod of the original fansite with Casey and Sarah...? Dude knows his stuff...do you guys still do podcasts together?

True story take it for what it’s worth. I was talking to Dave Twardzik, who was with Orlando in the front office at the time, and I will never forget him saying “Durant will be incredible, HOF, and is better than Oden but nobody I know would take Durant you just can’t pass on a once in a lifetime center like Oden”. It was the day of the draft lottery.

I know it's all hindsight, but Durant is not better than a healthy Oden would have been. A better scorer? Sure. But there isn't a doubt in my mind that Oden would have brought multiple titles to nearly any team. And certainly would have gotten one on Portland before Roy broke down. In fact he probably would have helped extend Roy's career.

Dude was awesome when he was healthy. That was a hell of a 20 game stretch for such a young guy.

Durant had to ride coat tails to get there.

2 ex wives eh? Sure wouldn't have expected that. I have never had one and have been married for going on 36 years.

I don’t disagree one bit. If that man had different knees he’s a franchise changing player every bit Durant is.

Yeah, I was thinking two trips to the Finals and got ahead of myself. Realized it a couple hours ago and knew someone would have corrected me when I checked back in!

Is it too late to make that trade now? I would trade a player we don't have, Durant, for Duncan to be our big man coach.

Speaking of Roy, I have a Laker fan trying to argue that he couldve kept playing and chose not to and if Rose could come back from what he went through, then Roy could too. Smfh.
