Notice SI: McCollum for Wiggins Trade Should but Won’t Happen

Hmmm. Almost all of Wiggins' value comes from his ability to draw and make foul shots. He's struggling to hit them now but it's early.

Besides size, its literally the only other advantage he has on CJ.

Wiggins currently making 3.7 FT/G to C.J.'s 3.3 FT/G.

C.J. currently making 2.9 3FG/G to Wiggins 1.6 3FG/G.

C.J. TS% = .565
Wiggins TS% = .500

Sample size too small? Last season:

C.J. TS% = .585
Wiggins TS% = .534

C.J. is, has been, and most likely always will be a much more efficient scorer than Wiggins.

I understand why some people (not me) think we should split up Dame and C.J., but this trade actually makes us worse. Wiggins would be an upgrade over Mo at starting SF, but not enough to justify the huge downgrade at starting SG.

And my biggest objection is Wiggins does nothing to address our biggest need - defense.

What? How is anyone for this? Wiggins is awful. He's a terrible 3 point shooter who likes taking long, contested shots, hates passing, and doesn't care even a little bit on defense. People complaining about Lillard/Cj defense and being for this are crazy. He makes last years Dame look like Tony Allen. I watch this guy a lot (big KAT fan), and he's just as bad if not worse than all the advanced stats show him to be. The Blazers would be worse off now and going forward.

If the Wolves don't want to pay Wiggins, maybe we could offer Harkless,Swanigan and draft picks for him.

but imho i can't imagine how Wiggins can take us to the next level even if he's next to CJ and Dame.

Agreed. We'd go from two weak perimeter defenders to three. Not seeing how that helps.

And, when his extension kicks in, he'd be yet another max contract player. Next year we'd have Dame at nearly $30 million, C.J. and Wiggins at a almost $26 million each and Turner at $18 million, That's almost $100 million for those four, before Nurk gets his extension and you factor in the other 10 players. We'd be in luxury tax and repeater hell for the foreseeable future.

Given the financials, I think Neil passes on Wiggins straight up for Meyers Leonard. That's how bad Wiggins' contract is - especially when lumped in with our other big contracts. Plus, i'm not even sure that, or any trade not involving a third team massively under the cap, is even possible. MIN is over the cap and Wiggins' contract has the same Poison Pill Provision C.J.'s had when he signed his extension.

Which means even C.J. straight up for Wiggins is not possible until next summer. Which also answers the real question of why this trade won't happen. It's not possible.

Thank you. It's weird that more people don't pick up on that. "WTF Neil, trade CJ!" Well, it's nigh-on-impossible to do this year.

Dame, otoh...

I mean, I wouldn't be against it... but we would need something more. Idk if Minny has something more to add to the deal, maybe Muhammad?

I was thinking the same sort of thing. We wouldn't be able to do that until December 14th though, apparently. I hope Niel has at least considered it, even though I don't think I would pull the trigger. Tough call.

Wiggins is not the answer.
Lateral moves are no longer the answer now.

One more major upgrade without depleting the bench and we are contenders.
We need to make a trade to get rid of Meyers for a 2nd round future pick.
Take that pick and pair it up with Vonleh and Aminu, laymen and napier and whatever other picks it would take and make a move for a draymond green type of player. the glue guy in the PF spot. Not sure who that is though.

I don't see any trade for CJ that we'd make around the league that would boost this season for us unless Kawai Leonard, Giannis or a comparable player was involved...and I don't see that happenin'....we don't need a big...we could trade Mo and Meyers anytime though.....

Is Wiggins still available?

For C.J.? I'm sure he is. Why wouldn't MIN trade a guy who shoots .340 3FG%, .574 FT%, for a guy shooting .523 3FG% who led the league in FT%?

Wiggins doesn't play defense and does nothing else except score (as indicated by his 15.0 PER). C.J. scores more and does so much more efficiently.

MIN would do this trade in a heartbeat. They would start C.J. at SG next to Butler at SF and MIN would be a top 4 team in the West.

The question is, why would Portland want to make a division rival so much better?

You know what trade that should and won't happen?

Klay Thompson + Iggy + Jordan Bell + 1st rounder for LeBron
(works salary-wise)

LBJ will not win a championship this year in Cleveland.
LBJ will be leaving Cleveland next year.
Cleveland has almost zero pieces to begin a rebuild.
Works for Cleveland.
Works for GS
Works for LBJ.

The only ones it doesn't work for are Klay and Iggy (and the rest of the teams in the league), but that's the business.

I guess if Dan Gilbert wants to be murdered, this trade would be a great way to get that going.

I was pissed off after McCollum lost us the game again.

For the Jazz? Good to see you back even though you've been a Jazz fan this season dude!

My former new team is boring. I'm taking applications for a new new team.

I feel as if Wiggins is basically the next Kevin Martin - a guy who would be an "asset" his entire career, going around the league a few times because GMs will always sign\trade him in hopes of trading him for a real star.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Daryl Morey going after him at some point.

Plenty of space on the warriors bandwagon

I'm too picky for prima donnas. I like Tonya Harding-like losers. The Blazers have suffered a breakdown since the Nate McMillan seasons of 25 wins, which I loved.

Be a Knicks fan. Everyone loves Porzingas, and since Melo's departure, they have a significantly lower prima donna factor than in seasons past.

Or, since you're a so high on McMillan, perhaps the Pacers would tickle your fancy. 6th in the league in scoring (so perhaps more interesting than the Jazz), and full of players looking to prove themselves.

If you like 25 win teams, I nominate SAC. For the last nine seasons, they have won between 17 and 33 games, for an average of 26 wins per season.

They look to be on track to win 20-something games again this year, and every year for the foreseeable future.

With their current owner and GM, you shouldn't have to worry about switching teams again anytime soon.

I agree that would be really appealing for both teams, with the only caveat being that Golden State doesn't really need to make this trade to stay on top, and what do they pay LBJ next year. Trade makes Golden State unstoppable for the next 4-5 years or more.

The Knicks are like the Yankees. Big city glitzy. I'm not high on McMillan, I'm low on him. I was happy when the Blazers were striving to improve, not like now when all we have to look forward to is the status quo for years until Lillard retires, because Olshey lacks Whitsitt's talent to make changes. Besides, who wants to live in Indiana besides Larry Bird.

Sacramento is dirty when you drive through, an eternal construction zone, and the capital of an evil empire, California. It's just a big dusty Bakersfield.

I'm surprised you didn't suggest Elkhart, Indiana. That's Shawn Kemp's hometown.

What about Orlando? Too good in the early season to capture your fancy?

Look no further than the G league!

You may have something there. I'll look up the worst team in the G-League standings.

The Delaware 87ers are 0-3. What an unpronounceable name. Delaware! Everyone wants to live there! Now, to find my new favorite player, the worst player on the worst team in the G-League...it's James Blackmon Jr.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/gleague/teams/DEL/2018.html

And 35-year-old Emeka Okafor is a starter! I got it made. Thanks, guys! I'll start a long game thread on the Blazer board for each 87er game, and tell the board how you got me to do it.

The opposite corner of the country from here. Mosquitoes. Florida is one of the few states I've never been in. On the other hand, then I could fly to see space launches and itemize it as a basketball deduction. Hmm.
