A league executive said that the Chicago Bulls have interest in New York Knicks forward Zach Randolph to solve their low-post scoring problems, but don’t have a package that would interest New York.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As badly as Portland doesn’t want a team to sign Darius Miles and cost them the $10 million in salary cap space next summer, it’s inevitable that it will happen after the Boston Celtics cut the 26-year-old forward. The release had little to do with Miles’ attitude and ability to still play in the league, and far more to do with Celtics GM Danny Ainge’s desire to get rookie Bill Walker meaningful minutes this season. What’s more, Boston has 15 guaranteed contracts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Larry Brown talked Michael Jordan out of trading forward Gerald Wallace over the summer, but that hasn’t stopped him from shopping him in the preseason, sources say. Charlotte was hoping to showcase Adam Morrison enough in the preseason to find a taker for him.

Oh come one now. The season starts next week and Miles still isn't signed.

I have been saying for three years that Zach would have been a great fit for the Bulls. When they had Ben Wallace, he would have matched up perfectly. Now Paxson wants to pull the trigger? Sheesh, it's a little late.

I dont think anyone will sign Miles. Like Boston, most teams would rather keep a young guy with potential on their roster than bring in a guy like Miles. And the vast majority of teams are close to the luxury tax and are not going to go over the cap and pay the tax for a guy like Miles. The economy doesnt help Miles's situation either.

If Miles can play he'll get picked up, if he can't he won't, it's really that simple. For my part I'm done worrying about it; his making a team and playing doesn't kill our off-season plans free agency plans, it just changes some variables and I'm sure KP and Tom Penn have more than enough contingency plans in place to deal with this should it come to pass.

I would be shocked if we actually pursue a free agent. IMO they'll trade Raefs contract at the deadline for the player we want.

Why do you always say "I have been saying this for years." for anything that comes up? Like you deserve a trophy or something because you had an opinion and someone else had the same opinion at some point down the line.

That shit bugs me... when you posters do that.

Random Poster - "Greg Oden is good."
ppl like maxiep - "Yeah, I have been saying that for years. Where is my cookie?"

Oh, and NO ONE is going to take Morrison. He SUCKS bad. Kid has no clue how to play NBA ball.

Perhaps because it makes his point that Paxon is an idiot. Ben Wallace would have been a good compliment to Z-Bo since Zach doesn't play D. Well Wallace is gone and Zach would just be a black hole without a security blanket on defense. At this point it isn't a good match anymore. Paxon is late to the party and has been screwing the Bulls for the past few years because he didn't want to break up his young core to build a winner. Well besides letting Chandler go for a guy a decade older with almost nothing left in the tank for 3X the cost.

Why are you constantly in a bitter mood? You are ALWAYS talking down to everyone for no good reason.

I will be shocked if no one signs Miles this season. We are talking about guys like Shavlik Randolph, and others. Miles is cheap and he can hurt the Blazers a little bit. Someone will, and really should sign him

His preseason stats were very mediocre:

Oct 8 v 76ers: 16 min, 6 pts, 1 rbs, 1 asts, 0 blks
Oct 10 v Cavaliers: 4 min, 0 pts, 0 rbs, 0 asts, 0 blks
Oct 11 v Rockets: 9 min, 0 pts, 4 rbs, 0 ast, 2 blks
Oct 14 v Cavaliers: 13 min, 2 pts, 2 rbs, 0 ast, 0 blks
Oct 16 v Nets: 9 min, 1 pt, 0 rbs, 0 ast, 0 blks
Oct 17 v Knicks: DNP - Coaches Decision

Total: 51 min, 9 pts, 7 rbs,1 ast, 2 blks

I would be shocked if someone actually picks him up. He has to actually show something before
someone picks him up, he hasn't.

Shavlik Randolph stats for a pre-season game:

19 pts, 10 reb in less than 20 min in a win against Atlanta.

What has Darius done this pre-season to make you compare him favorably to Randolph?

The longer Miles goes unsigned, the lower the chances someone will pick him up. If he is signed by someone, he still has to serve his 10 game suspension.

That basically eliminates him as a candidate to be signed to a 10-day contract. Since NBA teams generally play 4 - 6 games over any 10 day stretch (an average of 5 games in 10 days), Miles would have to be signed to two 10-day contracts just to serve out his 10 game suspension.

And, since you can't be signed to more than two 10-day contracts, any team that actually plans to play him would have to sign him for the remainder of the season - without the benefit of seeing how he performs in game situations during a 10-day contract.

So, unless someone is willing to give Miles a guaranteed season-long contract based on his recent performance in Boston, I doubt if he sees any action in the NBA this season.

Wouldn't that suck if we didn't use Raef's contract, and somebody signed miles after the deadline and he got to play in 10 games? :ohno:

Ironically, while many Blazer fans thought Danny Ainge was trying to screw the Blazers over by giving Miles a shot, in the end, he may have actually helped the team out. With 15 players already under guaranteed contract, there was very little chance of Miles actually making the Celtics roster. And, by playing out the preseason with the Celtics, it kept Miles from auditioning with another team that might have actually had a roster spot available.

So, now preseason is over, Boston has cut Miles loose. He'd didn't play big minutes or wow anybody during his preseason stint with the Celtics. If somebody picks him up now, it will be without the benefit of seeing how he fits with their team during game situations - and he still has that 10 game suspension hanging over his head.

If you were an NBA GM, would you sign Darius Miles to a guaranteed contract based on the "strength" of his performance in Boston - especially after an independent doctor ruled his knee injuries career-ending, and his past attitude problems, and knowing he'll have to serve a 10-game suspension before you even get a chance to see him play? And, as stated above, forget the possibility of a 10-day contract. The 10 game suspension rules that out.

It would suck, but it's very unlikely. Somebody would have to sign Miles for the rest of the season without the chance to see him play prior to giving him a guaranteed contract.

I'm also guessing that the longer Darius goes unsigned the more out of shape he will become. If he's not signed by the trade deadline, he'll likely be a regular at Baskin-Robbins and 30lbs. overweight.

there are only a few teams with roster room able to pick him up even if they wanted to.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

It was only as matter of time. I'm an old fart that resists change (I think I stuck it out on the ESPN Blazers board for a year and a half after most of the regulars left). But, I knew it was time to migrate when I realized I was posting more in Lakers forum on BBF than the Blazers forum. That place is a freakin' ghost town. It's a darn shame, but it is what it is. I don't really care what happened or why it happened, but when there is no one discussing the Blazers over there, it's time for me to move on.

In late breaking news, Adam Morrison is still Adam Morrison.

The rumor is the only reason Charlotte picked up the team option for his 3rd season is they hope to trade him for a journeyman big. What's Joe Wolf up to these days?

The problem is, Larry Brown isn't the kind of coach that will give a player minutes just to showcase him for a possible trade - and Morison isn't a Larry Brown kind of player. I can almost see a similar situation developing (on a smaller stage) to what went down with Brown and Isiah in New York - i.e. Hall of Fame coach and Hall of Fame Player/Incompetent Team Executive clash over player rotations. It didn't end well in New York, and Brown and Jordan are both very strong personalities with HUGE egos. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out. I know Rod Higgins is officially the Bobcan'ts GM, but he's really just a puppet for his best bud Michael Jordan.
