I think many of us have noticed the site having issues the past few days. In particular, the pages and dynamic refresh of bits of loaded pages (alerts, inserting your new post, etc.). A result of what appears to me to be a bug in the forum software is people are double posting or creating duplicate threads.

I want to assure you that I've been on it since it became noticeable. It only happens when the site is under load, so those are the only times I can try to diagnose the problem.

To that end, I think I've narrowed it down to the search function or one of the handful of plugins I added to the site to improve our experience. The issue seems directly related to new posts. The forum software needs to update a search index for 3.5M posts. The forum software blocks any other posts while that index is updated. That at is the long delay we all were seeing. This is my current theory - all the clues suggest it.

I've shut down the search feature and a few of the likely buggy addons. So far, the site is much more responsive for me and I'm not seeing error popups or long times to post.

Please PM me if you see lagginess or end up making double posts.

I bought a deluxe search engine option for xenforo. I didn't fully set it up when we moved to the new set up. If we determine it is the search function that is the problem, I'll set that up.

I may want to try turning on one or more of the features at a time to see if they trigger the problem. Please bear with me. I am 100% positive I will resolve the problem soon.

I appreciate your patience.

I was just about to say something because it had happened a few times. But I figured it was just me since no one else brought it up. Thanks for the heads up! For what its worth, it has happened to me both on PC and on my iPad.

One of the things I turned off is the "who's viewing this thread" at the bottom of thread pages.

That is one of those things I was saying I might turn on to see if the issue comes back.

We have confidence Denny! Thanks for taking the time to explain it and good luck sorting it all out

I'm having trouble seeing the "fuck that guy" button. Where did it go? I see my mod privileges for ability to hack accounts is frozen too! You take away all my fun!

You need to mail in your payola mags, it's probably overdue

I went on strike when I stopped getting my 50 bucks a month!

Maybe I didn't turn off the index all the way. The problem persists. I'm on it still.

We should just post by fax machine until this is figured out.

I just thought it was my new mug shot I downloaded. It was pretty sizeable.

Speaking of that. Hey mods, how about resizing my picture so I have hair.

Global warming has finally caught up with you Denny. No more denial.

So I have a question. Don't know if it's a site issue or my windows 8. But this only happens on this website... Still wouldn't put it past my windows 8/my lack of knowledge of computers.

When I click on the "Alert" and go to a thread to read the alert. It doesn't allow me to scroll through the thread. I have to either reload the site via the address bar, or hit the back button.
Does this happen to anyone else? or is it just me.
I'm not very computer savvy so I don't know if I explained it well enough.

It should take you to the post the alert was originating from, but allow access to the rest of the thread to peruse at your leisure. I don't know if you have a setting that's not ticked or what, but it should be universal across the member base to allow free reign of a thread after clicking on an alert.

Unfortunately it doesn't : /

When I saw the alert from your quote. I moved my mouse over the alert then clicked directly on "Strenuus has quoted your post in x thread". It took me to your post, then I couldn't scroll with mouse wheel, nor manually moving the mouse to the scroll bar. It also didn't let me quote you to reply. I had to push the back button, then find the thread to reply.

I bet it's my windows 8/lack of knowledge about computer stuffs as why it happens. :(

Thank you though. It does only happen like 50% of the time. the other 50% I can scroll/quote/reply just fine.

Thank you for replying.

Hmm... I'm using Windows 8 as well and never had a problem... I really don't think it's on "your end" in terms of you being unknowledgeable about the feature.... I'll poke around and see if I cant find anything.

In helping out Honki looking through the Alert Preferences I see you can "tag" people.... is that like twitter? Where you can @ someone? How does the tagging thing work? It might be good if we quote one person but want to get anothers attention so that they know to look at that specific post. (They would get an alert too.)

To reply to this thread I had to refresh browser on my phone. It seems to be happening frequently where I tap the box to reply but nothing happens. Sometimes I have to refresh 3-4 times before it says "write reply here" and I can tap it and my keyboard pops up. Ive actually rage quit a few times and not replied because of it. Glad you are working on it. Still not fixed for me it seems.
