Skal can catch a lob and the real upside to him is he can become a shot blocker which we really need...he's fast..has incredibly good footwork and handles for a guy with a 7'2 wingspan...can shoot...can run ...only 216 lbs...that can improve
bingo...we now have another defender down low for the playoffs. We have plenty of scoring now, especially with the addition of Curry and Hood and Jake coming around. And don't forget we have the greatest second pick ever in GTjr.

ok, I can't remember the exact math on the salary floor vs present and future costs and tax....if people have it figured somewhere, great

but Portland absorbed Varejao and Mike Miller into the gap in their salary floor for a 1st round pick. They got the mid-season bump for full credit salary, and then they stretched Varejao, got right up to the tax line in the first season and have been absorbing cost ever since and still have 2 more years of his 1.9M stretch

Looks like Portland will end up paying millions for the 1st round pick they used on Swanigan and now have converted to Skal. That could be one of the most expensive bought picks in NBA history, and there's still 3.7M more to be added to the cost. What a brilliant trade

So, we can all agree Skal is an Upgrade over Swanigan, but that's not difficult, Swanigan is a huge bust, and i'm Happy he's gone. Still dissapointed about this day, wish we could have got Prince or something. But that's just wishful thinking with our pussy GM

Skals numbers this year aren’t worth dissecting. He’s barely played.

Last season however he played 20mpg

Per/36

15.2 PPG
8.4 RPG (3 orpg)
1.4 BPG
2.1 APG
45% FG
35% 3PT
14.3 PER

22 years old but has only been playing basketball since 14.

I don’t get it. Is Olshey just incapable of making a big-impact trade? Portland seems to now be the dumping ground for marginal NBA players.

Skal sounds like something the Klingons would name a Bird of Prey.

Looks more like a Turtle of Prey.

Oregon has always been a junior training ground for the Mid West!

Its not about salary as it is about trying to get lucky with a young player who has some potential.

Sounds more like this:

Neil: Our 3rd string PF is worthless.

Vlade: Our 3rd string PF is also worthless.

Neil: Wanna swap? For funsies. And so I can tickle the balls of Portland fans when they see "Portland" in a Woj tweet before they realize it's a worthless trade.

Vlade: Sure, why the hell not?

Why do you have to bring up Mitch McConnell in the main forum?

Because I understand Neil is going to trade McCollum for McConnell this summer.

I remember reading an article in this kid in either SI or ESPN Magazine about his history. Been through a lot. Hurricane relocation.

To be frankly honest, I completely forgot Swanigan was even on our team.

Skal at least has some projectability. Early into his college career, he was considered a likely lottery pick. He just hasn't put it together.

Not saying he'll put it all together in Portland. Just that he has much more upside than Caleb and he's still really, really young.

The only thing I like about this trade is that Skal is a UK guy. Upgrading the end of the bench is actually bad imo since it’s gonna take min from guys like Jake and Zach who we desperately need to develop if we ever plan on being more than first round fodder.

or we downgraded our 5th and 6th guys to the bench

How come? WB4/Nick were maybe the best of the 3 traded and they were #9 or so on the rotation list - if Hood goes to the starting line and we move Harkless / Layman to the bench - this is in theory an upgrade to the bench.
