Worst earworm I ever had was Huey Lewis Stuck with You. Two weeks. And if I hear even a line from it I don't sleep that night. Earworms never really die!

It’s A Small World (Disney) does it to me every time. Oh shit, I just screwed myself by bringing it up.....there goes the next week’s sleep. Aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!

There's some dumb old song everyone I worked with knew got stuck in my head and I hated it. It was that "I'm blue blah da dee da doo da" garbage.

One kid would ask me questions like "Hey, what color is the sky?"

Boom, song stuck in my head. That fucker did it all the time. "What color were Elvis' suede shoes?" DAMMIT!

Anyone have some sleep solutions? Ambien works of course, but I don't like taking it regularly. I bought some CBDs but really don't know what to buy. Liquid melatonin seems to help... Suggestions?

I suggest daily exercise and take outdoor walks when you can. There are benefits of sunlight.

I've been taking Trazadone (doctor prescription) before bed for years. Works great. I used to have a hard time falling asleep, then would wake up several times a night and take an hour or more to fall back asleep. Now I sleep good every night and wake up refreshed & ready to visit HCP's wife.

I’m about a month into not sleeping well. I took a year off of work to be with my kids and suddenly I can’t sleep at night. Makes it tough to be tired while chasing around twins and not having any backup. Did some acupuncture and taking some herbs but I sometimes think my mind is too damn jaded to let me believe that any of it will work. I’ve never smoked marijuana but just tried a drink containing CBD. We’ll see.

I recently started taking that too, and it works great for 5 hours but then I wake up with dry mouth. Do you have that side effect?

Ever tried Zquil? It usually works for me.

If you're looking for a long term solution.... I got nothing.

..same here...my and the wife both take the generic version of zquil...$4 for a bottle of 32.

But what about all the insomniacs that are already there visiting?

1. Melatonin. You only need a partial pill about once a week or perhaps once a month. This is a natural substance and according to multiple doctors of mine at the VA, is pretty benign;
2. Trazedone. It's available by prescription and is one of the most benign of the prescription sleep aids;
3. A good stiff shot of Scotch. With or without soda, with ice or neat, it's all good.

Some combination of these three will do the trick. I've been known to try all three at once. Of the three, I must confess, Scotch is my favorite (for medicinal purposes, of course).

Watch a golf tournament or a bowling tournament while listening to Sade....faster than Sominex....

or come in this forum and read one of maris's posts. If you're not asleep before you finish it, then there is no solution. It's why I avoid reading them. :biglaugh:

I truly believe in using natural ingredients and have found Kosher Kush or Purple Hindu Kush as a very effective aid. :smiley-smiley-049:

I used to have trouble sleeping.

The first thing I did was really really control what I thought about. I "write" plot lines if I have trouble sleeping. And I'm very disciplined when my mind wanders to bring it back to the story. I know someone who builds sheds to fall asleep...bit by bit, cut by cut, nail by nail. Just super focused on the task. It's different that the counting sheep thing...it isn't lulling, it's controlling what direction your mind is going. It works well for me.

Also, I never ever add up my hours or even think about it. I never stress about not falling asleep. I just accept it without thinking about it. Same if I wake up in the middle of the night, I try not to think too deeply, but if I do and can't fall back asleep, I either just get up for a while, or do something else until I'm ready to try again. Not stressing, taking the pressure off, controlling your thoughts, these are the things I do. Good luck.

I've found the only guaranteed sleep remedy for me is exercising 5 days a week for an hour or so. When I switched to 3 days of more exerting exercise over 40 minutes, I started having sleeping problems. When I switched to zero days, it all went to hell. I've had others tell me strictly doing cardio is a good sleep remedy. I concentrated on weight training with light cardio, and I think the muscle recovery probably inhibited sleep at times. I'd wake up in the middle of the night with muscle spasms or pulsing. Usually, a midnight snack would simmer it down and help make me drowsy, so eating late can help induce sleep. None of the sleep aids mentioned help me, except Z-quil. I use that daily at this point. Surprisingly, it still works although it really only helps me fall asleep eventually, not immediately. Depending on your physical health, maybe you can't exercise 5 days a week. As I've gotten older, a few hours doing yard maintenance will typically knock me out easier that night. So, it doesn't necessarily take much, but I think going at it awhile is key.

...me and my wife try to workout every day during the weekdays...and the generic zquil 2-3 nights a week works for us.

@crandc, thank you. That is very helpful, and kind of you to take so much time writing it.

I do many of the things you suggest. Your insight that really helped already was "the worst that can happen is that you will be tired the next day." Good advice! Sometimes when I am up at 3 am, I can get into a panic about the next day, so that really helps. My sweet wife falls asleep in about 2 minutes, so lying next to her deep breathing so quickly can also up my anxiety level.

Yes, I also get earworms sometimes, strangely, it happens most if I happen to hear the soundtrack from The Producers. I swear! Damn that Mel Brooks can write a catchy tune. Ha!

I have sworn this week to get off the Ambien and that's why this is up right now. The melatonin and chamomile and no electronics is helping. Yesterday I went to the pot store and bought some edibles. I took those too last night. Apparently they were not cbds like I thought as I woke up 2 hours later totally stoned!
Look at the bright side, at least you got stoned.

For 25 years now I listen to sports radio when I go to bed. My sleep issues are mostly mental though. Thinking about sports helps relax my mind and not think about stressful things. It was also comforting that someone was up with me every night. Luckily my wife doesn't mind the noise (she's a heavy sleeper) and is usually asleep by the time I go to bed anyway.

Lately having 3 kids is exhausting so I fall asleep very easily. However, I wake up a lot. I try so hard not to look at the clock but I always end up looking.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned essential oils yet. Somebody has to have a wife that bought into some stupid multi-level marketing scheme...

Instead, I have a wife who ruthlessly mocks those who buy into the scheme.

Don't knock them thar oils. They soften the skin and smell good. A combo made in heaven. Cheap at twice the price. It'll go good with my bubble bath and "Men's" fragrance that smells so wonderful on me. Now, I feel the need for a mud facial and the firm hands of a manly woman massaging away the day's troubles.

I'm gonna tell you a secret but don't you dare tell anyone else in here. I go to a salon for my weekly treatments. They shampoo, style and give me the most wonderful permanents followed by a half an hour under the hood of a hair dryer. Sometimes I have them add streaks to my hair to make me look naughty. Don't forget, mum's the word.
