Only if their play merits being a part of the rotation. I would imagine there are more top ten busts than there are top ten rotation players.

We could have had Taj Gibson over Victor Claver. You can say a similar thing about any draft.

Before very recently, you basically had an 8-man rotation. Two of those players in Mo and CJ are undersized SGs who like the ball in their hands but aren't really PGs. I wish one of these days Barton could figure it out because he gives the backcourt some length so we are not always so undersized.
Will is pure joy to watch at times (how fun was last night) but then he will go into 'wacky decision mode' that keeps him from being in the rotation although that is better this year than last year.
He, like Robinson, is a dervish of energy and if that could be channeled for good, they would be awesome to have coming off the bench on a nightly basis.

I hate to keep saying this, but I think like most of the young players on our bench, it can't happen until they get consistent playing time. But I agree Will gives us something we need. They will have to choose between him and Crabbes this summer as Will's qualifying offer is due. One needs to stay to go along with Wes and CJ. Both of them is redundant.

very well said Tpup! I think Will can morph into a pt guard with length. He needs minutes to really come into his own and get his confidence up

Do players really morph into PG's? I don't think they do. They either are or they are not. I just praised Will, but that was as a SG with handles and length and defensive capabilities. But his decision making has yet to reach SG potential, let alone PG decision making. I don't even think CJ can morph into a PG. They are both fine as SGs.

These guys are just getting started, I believe they can. Stotts said he was interested in having Will try the point last season because of his length and ability to drive the lane. Distributing takes time to become second nature and without that time in real games, these guys like Will are going to be cold at first. How many guys played the 5 in college and morph into SF or PF after they are drafted? I'm not at all worried about the point guard position on this roster. We have several guys that can bring the ball up and distribute. Batum could morph into a pt guard if he wanted to. Becoming a better passer just takes repitition

With Lin's contract, they may not have a choice on who they keep, unless they want to overpay for 2 PGs.

It must suck to be Houston, where you're actually starting a point guard you can't afford to keep, and benching the point guard you can't afford.

You're probably right, and it really won't matter, since both of their contracts expire after next season.
I do wonder a bit if Beverley is overvalued by Blazer fans, though, because he seems to have his best games against Portland. The guy looked like an All-Star last time he played Portland, but overall, his season is just kind of meh.
He's a 12.2 PER tweener (he's not a true PG) who only averages 3.1 assists/36. He's a great value at his current contract, but I'm not sure how much a player like him is worth after next season. He'll be 26 years old, and is who he's going to be at this point of career, and he has yet to shoot even 40% in his NBA career.

Really good points; my desire to have him on the team is driven a lot by the way he shuts Lillard down almost entirely.

Blazer fans are obsessed with defensive minded point guards. I'm guilty of it as well. I think it goes at least as far back as Greg Anthony. We love a lockdown point guard.

Greg Anthony's don't exist. A defensive minded point guard who can shoot the three and doesn't mind coming off the bench? I can't think of one.

I used to like him quite a bit. How has he looked the last 2 years? Have not seen him lately. i was wondering that as well when i saw he was released.

For whatever reason, he seemed to always be in Mike Woodson's doghouse (not necessarily a bad thing, considering Woodson's incompetence). Still, you have to ask yourself, do you really want a guy who couldn't get minutes on a team that features Fatty Felton as their starting PG for 33 MPG?

I honestly haven't seen him play since his days with the Spurs/Kings. But I always thought he had a solid game. He wasn't good because of his athleticism, he was good because he knew how to play and had the ball-handling and passing ability to go with a good understanding of how to be a PG. So I suspect he'd still be good as long as he had a decent system to work within. I seem to recall him being a decent defender too?
