So this is the guy we have on our summer league team? (russ)

He's a stupid guy to have if your goal is to develop the players you have, because he's like Iverson without the PG skills. (Yes, I know Iverson had very little PG skills.)

Russ Smith can score anytime he wants and I think hes a nice end of the bench last PG on the team type of player. Hes better than Napier, Roberts, and they both had a roster spot on our team.

But, but, the 87ers trumps the 76ers... Man, that really doesn't roll off the tongue.

I'm just thinking he can be a good player to have at our disposal, someone you can throw out there when your normal bench player can't hit from anywhere.

There are tons of scrubby little point guards that can't get their shot on the pro level. Last year it was Ra'Shad James who was jacking up a bunch of horrible shots.

We always seem to invite some score first scrub guard from the D League.

Problem is, he can't exactly hit from anywhere, either. He feasts on inferior competition by scoring at the rim and getting to the foul line. He won't be able to do so against NBA talent. He's been compared to Jerryd Bayless, but he's also 3" shorter and far less athletic - and Bayless actually has a 3-point shot. In another thread, I compared him to a poor man's Sebastian Telfair - a shoot first, undersized PG with no outside shot. Last I heard Telfair was playing in China - which is probably where Russ ends up sooner, rather than later.

He doesn't make other around him better especially a position where you need to get other players involve.

Most of Smith's shot attempts came in the last few minutes when we had exhausted all options at climbing out of the game-long pit. We had lost, so he 1) tried to help while 2) padding his stats in the last couple of minutes.

He's a good layup-to-mid-range shooter, but only 6 feet tall. 3 more inches and he'd be in the NBA. Just enjoy all the talent out there and stop complaining.

Hero ball is what got us in the hole in the first place
