The war is over. Obama is now a hero, effectively, cementing another 4 years.
Simple as that.
Right?...........Riiiight?
...Sarah Palin has not yet been brought to justice...
...and neither have you, for that matter.
Libya worked out fine, killing Gaddafi cost us about 4400 less soldiers than killing Saddam. We are about to be out of Iraq. Bin Laden is dead meat, as are a bunch of his buddies....
Then why am I posting from Gitmo? Answer me that!

NATO and pursuing a man on the run. Yay.
NATO and pursuing a man on the run. Yay.
So what do you mean by that? Who is the man on the run? Bin Laden? Saddam? Gaddafi? Since he (whichever) was on the run, should we have let him go?
Do you see something wrong with having NATO be the front man?

I was simply responding to your comparison of us losing so many assets nailing Saddam. That was a much different effort. It doesn't necessarily make it right, just different.
That was my point, that it was different.

I think you point, though, was that it was better. If so, I'd maintain that it's an apples vs. oranges comparison.
Nonetheless, they're all the bad guys....and they're gone.
Yes, but you have to pay taxes on the bushel basket of apples and oranges (to quote Romney). Maybe there are some reasons to prefer oranges.
barfo
Yeah, orange ya glad we have choices?
Back on topic, there's no doubt Obama will garner points in this latest move. However, I'm still a bit incredulous as to if it's the right one....that is, at this moment in time. We're certain to find out, though.
Not at all certain. We might both die tomorrow.
Edit: in each others arms.

Is it a win for Obama if Iraq is thrown into turmoil after we leave?

Well, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Iraq will continue to be in turmoil.
Is that Obama's fault for pulling out, or Bush's fault for going in? Or would they be in turmoil no matter what the US did or didn't do? Depends on your perspective.

Sure, it's unstable at the moment, but I'm talking civil war. Lots of death. It will be interesting to see how things play out in Libya, Egypt, Syria, and now Iraq.

was it unstable when we invaded them as a sovereign nation (that hadn't attacked us) and wasn't posing us any threat as our leaders professed? Hasn't it been pretty unstable ever since? Exactly when were we going to be free of our responsibility for having attacked them under false pretenses and destroyed their government and infrastructure? Can we agree that this was/is a very bad situation with no good exit option that should have been avoided from the get go?
I'm stoked the guys are going to be coming home soon. God bless them but good luck to those who's service is up on finding work stateside... especially with the Tea "Party" issuing a memo to it's business owner followers to pledge not to hire anyone until Obama is ousted.
STOMP
Well, I don't know that it makes him a hero, but he has kept that promise.
Frankly he's looking pretty good on foreign policy. Libya worked out fine, killing Gaddafi cost us about 4400 less soldiers than killing Saddam. We are about to be out of Iraq. Bin Laden is dead meat, as are a bunch of his buddies. Afghanistan, of course, is still a flytrap, and Sarah Palin has not yet been brought to justice, so there is still work to be done.

The problem, in my mind, is this: whether you agree or disagree with us invading Iraq in the first place, we have a responsibility to the people of that country. We destroyed the government and infrastructure of Germany and Japan too, but we stayed until the country was back on its feet and eventually an economic super power (in Japans case). Hell, we're still in Germany and Japan to some extent. I just don't want to see Iraq completely torn apart because Obama (or any politician for that matter) wanted to score a win with the people so he can get re-elected. Iraq is unstable right now, absolutely, and it is our fault. Period. We need to see it through until the country can self-sustain and we can limit our involvement to a minimum.

The military leadership is not very happy about it, either.
