So who just played their last game as a Blazer?

What we need is some changes to the CBA that benefit small markets and help to level the playing field.

This is exactly what troubles me, kj: having to look for silver linings and shit.
Whatever.
If you don't even think the only ways that are out there will work then you might as well go be a Golden State fan until they start falling off. Then there will always be another good team you can root for. Might be the Blazers by then. We will welcome you back i'm sure.

Don't lash out. You're saying you're okay with what isn't okay with me right here:

At some point you have to just enjoy the team you have and look for improvements when they become available.

We just have differing opinions.

It's hilarious that the new CBA's always are touted as helping the small market teams, but rarely end up doing so.

As if the owners are actually just interested in making a profit over competing for a title...

If we can get Love and that Nets pick for CJ it would be our most realistic way of retooling this roster for the future. This is a good draft to have 2 lottery picks in.

I missed how we get two lottery picks? How do we get a second one aside from the Nets pick?

Because if we traded CJ in a deal for Love and the BKN pick we would miss the playoffs this year, especially with Love out 2 months. So it would be ours and the BKN picks.

You would think Paul Allen, with as long as he’s been an owner and as rich as he is, would have more influence on the CBA than he’s shown so far.

Okay, got it. I'm not sure I buy it, but I can understand it. With the other injuries in the lower half of the western conference, and Dame healthy, I'm not sure we wouldn't sneak into the back end of the playoffs.

Like i said. Seems like you need to go bandwagon for a while. This rebuild will be another two years to come around. Go enjoy a winner. Keep the Blazers on the back burner or something. And yes we do indeed have differing opinions. No sweat with that for me. You want a championship this year or next? Go look to teams that have been working the process for 4-6 years.

This....my mom was a lifelong Cubs fan...she got to see them win it a couple weeks before she passed away...patience is a virtue

I think he doesn't want that responsibility.

Lol. That's so unfair. You're saying I can't love my team and despise the management at the same time?

KJ, I want promise. And I don't see that with this roster. Who is going to surprise us other than maybe Collins? That's worrisome. It's not like we're sitting on Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum. Now that Stotts has given up on Vonleh and Moe, what you see is what you get, no? Just join me in my indignation.

It's hilarious that you think the CBA is un-fair in any way.
Every team plays by the same rules.

The ONLY thing that would be remotely uneven the additional revenue larger markets get - so they can afford to pay the tax more easily. But even then, most owners want to avoid the tax regardless of what size of market they are located in.

People need to stop complaining and wanting a hand-out. Start figuring out how to be smarter and make better decisions.

GSW didn't become what they are due to the market size. The became what they are because they make incredibly smart decisions. Same with Boston, their management and coaching staff is top notch.

If market size was as big of a factor, then why has NY, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Dallas, and LAL been so bad?

I don't have any hope for NO to figure that out. When he says that you have to 'overpay' for players in FA and hope they make it up later in their contract - that is exactly the wrong thinking. Just because you have money under the cap, doesn't mean you HAVE to spend it. Paying players 2x (or more) what they are worth when NO ONE ELSE is even offering them a contract (Ezeli, Meyers, Harkless) is beyond idiotic. :beatinto:

Just like letting all your FA walk one year, and then the next year saying that you can't afford to loose "assets" so you end up over-paying them significantly.

IF Portland had shown that they were making prudent, smart choices and still couldn't become a contender - I might put a tiny bit of credence in things being un-fair... but right now, we need to own up to all the poor decisions that were made.

Absolutely not. You are welcome to do whatever you wish Prop. I went through years of having problems with Nate and Obviously i didn't really like Pritchard. I thought the whole GM carousel was a joke. I hated the fake sellout streak.
I just feel like this is way too early to give up on a GM that pretty much got blindsided by Aldridge after he specifically said he was re-signing. Olshey could have traded him and come out better. I also think the 2016 summer contracts were due to a 44 win season that everyone thought was gonna be 25 wins. People wanted to keep Crabbe. Meyers was uninjured and playing well. Turner had been a 6th man candidate.
Like i said above too early to give up on a process that takes 4-6 years when you are 2 1/2 years in.

I look at it his tenure differently than you do. I see attributable failures where you see bad breaks--or rather, I think Olshey has deservedly lost the benefit of the doubt at this point, so where I once saw bad breaks, I now see attributable failures. Either way, we are pretty much seeing the same things, just coming to different conclusions. So, let's take this up again in a year and a 1/2 (hopefully you're digging this quote out of the archives to shame me when that time comes).

I would never shame you for wanting better for the team.
Your perspective is fair. I just cannot really fault most of his decisions. Teams take years to build. Olshey came here and was handed an entirely different team.

In order of likelihood:

1. No one
2. Harkless, because he's the best combination of not performing enough that Olshey might move him but has shown enough flashes in his career and is young enough that another team might believe they can still fashion a consistent 3&D wing out him

Which NEIL decided to blow up and rebuild. It’s not like he is completely blameless in this whole debacle we’re in. Fuck he paid Meyers 10m a year. Traded Barton for a bag of peanuts. Not to mention Evan turner and his contract. Or the fact that we’re looking at 5 mil in dead money which we could really use about now with all the expiring contracts we have. To act like you can’t fault the guy for the decisions he made on his watch is ludicrous. Building a team takes time but I don’t see Danny ainge make these types of obvious mistakes or rc Buford or Sam hinkie for that matter. Quality executives can spot a bad bet you give Neil any flexibility whatsoever and he spends it like it’s burning a hole in his pocket.

Aldridge left. Neil didn't trade him. He left.
Barton is still quite possibly the lowest BBiQ i have ever seen. Trading him for a quality backup when Mathews was healthy which Afflalo would have been was a good move. Turned out bad due to injury and later when the team went a different direction. Barton still is a bonehead on the court.
Meyers had his best season and was just coming off huge games against Marc Gasol. His shot was improving as it still is. Sure i could see 8 mil for 4 years instead but his numbers were pretty good going into that summer. Injury held him up last year and this year he is not in the rotation. Way too much emphasis on trading Meyers as he is a 7 foot backup that this team needs if Nurk gets any lengthy injury time.
Turner was just a 6th man candidate and yes i agree should probably got 14-15 instead of 17 but they also didn't get the cap bump that was projected. 108 million is quite a bit more than 99 mil.
Easy to pick apart decisions other people make when you are not in the position to make them. Not so easy to see the whole picture. Hind sight surely is 20/20.

Is this the same KJ that used to post on Oregon Live? Just playing but I couldn't imagine this comment from you last season.

Some of that has to do with discussions with you about cap and rules. It's not always so easy to see. You have to study. Fans just want a great team. You can't fault them for that. I fall victim to the "Trade em all" Blow it up mentality also.
Just got to look at the process and big picture. Right now is middle of the season. I like to support during the season. Now Summer you might find me more willing to cut loose of some people.
