Just curious but why does Bill Simmons refer to the Blazer fanbase as "soccer moms"?

I think it has to do with how soccer mom's want so bad for their children to do well and worry so much about how their kid does... and said Blazer fans were similar with Oden.
 
not sure how correct that is though.

he says it because many blazer fans protect oden like hes their own kid..... like soccer moms do.

It's Oden related. Most people on this board seem to be Roy's step-mom, though.

He needs to give it another read and start hating on Roy. He'd have a whole bunch of new fans!

Simmons, if you read this, author a column hating on Roy and saying he is overrated and selfish. You'll have a whole new batch of "fans" in InternetLand!
 
I am currently reading his latest book on the NBA and it is good. Can't stand his columns, but he is a good writer.
 
Because he's really Richard Simmons and overweight soccer moms are his biggest (make that ONLY) fans.

Bingo.

Basically his take is that we're so passionate about our team and he gets so much e-mail about it, that he's determined that most Blazers fans think everybody on the roster is either A) a future all-star, or B) an all-star snub.

It's hyperbole, but after seeing some of the stuff people have written on message boards over the years I can sort of see where he's coming from.
 
He's no different than Canzano or the average internet forum troll. He recognizes an area he can attack to draw attention, and he does it. He knows that Portland fans are passionate, so he usually throws a jab or two into his columns about us just to keep people angry and emailing.

Yeah, although for every "Armon is a future all-star thread", there is a "Brandon is a worthless has-been thread" and a "How can we trade for (random so-so player from another team)" thread.

The "soccer moms" thing is just another trigger he's using to attempt to get more interest.
 
It's lame. He zeroed in on this fanbase back in 07 when his tanking Celtics lost the draft lotto.

My guess is that like soccer moms, we cheer regardless. We aren't going anywhere in the playoffs, but continue to cheer hard. Also, every player the Blazers draft is the next big thing. Like the kids of soccer moms. Our kid is the best.
 
Because Bill Simmons is always on the look out for more Soccer Mom's to "do".

Because he's a prick. Oh I see Weav beat me to it. He has been hating on Oden and Blazers fans for ages so he's responding to his Santa Clause sized stack of "fan mail" from all the folks in Oregon returning the hate. He's such a god damned coward he's one of the only ones on ESPN with a no comment policy. What a wuss.

He came to Portland for a book signing last year. Anybody could have showed up to tell him what a 'coward' he is. I assume that you went and gave Simmons a piece of your mind?
