Soccer player received red card but should get his nose punched in

Is that a serious question? Ever wondered where the expression "treating me like a dog" came from?

Picking dogs up by the scruff is actually how the mothers carry them... granted when they get bigger, that might cause them some pain, it's not akin to beating a dog.

We were always physical with our dog growing up... it was a dog. We wouldn't be cruel or beat it, but in several instances, our dog had to realize its place in the family and be handled aggressively.

The mentality that dogs should be treated like humans is some straight up bullshit... we treated our dog with love and care, treated her like the fucking queen of all dogs, but at the end of the day, she was our dog...

Really, is that how you saw the video. That he was picking the dog up by the scruff of the neck the way mothers do to puppies. Because I've never seen a a mother dog grab a puppy on the underside of the neck and try to toss the puppy over a fence.

I don't know what you consider is OK treatment for being a dog, but thank god our society recognizes and punishes people who commit animal abuse and that dogs do have the protections of the law.

I'm not saying that it was the best way of going about things, but I am saying that it's not as bad as the media coverage has made it out to be. And yeah, any outrage in this incident stems from cultural backgrounds...

Apparently a lot of dogs in Portland must live better than people from my neighborhood, and none of the posters here were ever physically reprimanded by their parents growing up...

A fucking dog runs on the field, then throw it off...

How do you feel about Manu Ginobili grabbing the bat in San Antonio?

Whatever man, it sounds like you are bagging on people from Ptd because of the way they treat or think about their pets.

I wouldn't exactly be proud of the mentality the south has on animals and hope they are not the model for how society should treat pets.

Hey, I'd love to visit Portland. From what I've heard from my time on this board, it seems like an awesome place...

I'm just saying that we're such a large country, that people's perspectives on issues like this will tend to differ regionally... and while a lot of people put themselves in a place where they're taking the "moral high ground" on issues, I'd prefer to look at the situation as a matter of cultural differences...

Someone's pet treatment in Memphis should not be held to the same standards as someone's pet treatment in Portland... we're in the same country but have a different cultural philosophy entirely. To say that your philosophy is right and ours is wrong, without understanding our culture is ridiculous. That's all I'm saying...

So, since the culture is to diddle little boys on Thursday nights in Afghanistan, we should be tolerant of child rape? I don't think so. It's wrong.

Dogs to not land well went they fall. There was a very real chance that the guy could have broken the dogs leg. The dog looks to be part german shepard. They tend to have bad hips....even without some jackhole throwing them in the air. That dog ran off, but its hips could be permanently injured, causing a miserable old age for the dog.

What was wrong with the option of leading the dog of the field? It was clearly confused and non-aggressive, by the way it was being submissive. There was absolutely no reason to do what the player did.

Again, as Wheels said, fuck that asshole. I wish someone had run up and cold-cocked him.

I raised two male wolf mix dogs, and I understand your point of sometimes having to be physical with them. The point of that is to train them. You don't train a dog by throwing them as high as you can by the neck.

A dog is not a bat. And a dog is not a spider. So can we stop these bullshit comparisons? Unless you are a Buddhist, but then you'd be condemning all of them.

A dog runs on the field, you try and catch it. Once you do you get it off the field. The way he picks up the dog is bad enough, but whatever, its hard to catch a dog so I'll give him a pass. Anyone watching that video can tell that the dog is scared and extremely submissive. My dog would be flailing around if you picked him up like that. At this point any rational person, regardless of cultural cultural upbringing, would have the sense to get the dog off the field by some other means than THROWING IT OVER A FUCKING FENCE.

The cultural differences argument only gets you so far. There is some standard of how all living things should be treated. Being tossed around or kicked (similar incident here in San Diego last week where a runner was seen kicking a stray dog) does not meet that standard.

I dont give a flying frak where someone is from. Picking up a scared submissive animal and attempting to throw it over a fence 10 feet away is a Dick move.

I'm Mexican, we supposedly cook Dogs along with Asians.. culture has nothing to do with it. Throwing a a defenseless animal for no reason at all is a Dick move in Beijing, Portland, Memphis, Mexico DF, and everywhere else

Haha, so my grandma grew up in rural(ish) China in the 20s and 30s. She never really learned English. One day at a family dinner she was muttering about something in Chinese. Apparently she was talking about some recipe for dog. When we asked her what dog tasted like...she said rat! She also mentioned once that white dogs taste the best, which is now a joke in my family considering my dog is basically pure white. That is a true cultural difference and one that I am totally fine with. BUT, that is not the same as mistreating an animal. Even animals that you eat should be treated decently.
