As the deal is reported, as of Tuesday, who is the Nets' backup shooting guard?

Right now, you'd have a TOTAL of just three GUARDS on the team: Harris--who is hurt, Marcus--who sucks, and Carter. Wright, Armstrong, and Kidd are gone. RJ and Boki can't play SG. Of course, I'm not including Ager, who may have potential, but I can't imagine him being suddenly given significant PT.

There is something else in the works--count on it. There will be a purpose behind the trade exception.

I guess I forgot about Hassell. I still think something else is up, though.

Unfortunately we get Hassell. Also, I've heard mixed reports where some include Armstrong and others include Wright. Not sure both will leave. I don't think Armstrong is going to go because Frank is going to need him to help aclimate Harris. Williams will be useless in that area.

Kyle Lowry possibly?

Kyle Lowry would be awesome. THAT ia a player I want to root for.

I've seen his name floated around with Miller's ever since Memphis got Crittenton.

I pray to God that he comes here. That would be incredible.

It sounds like Chris Wallace is hosting an auction for Mike Miller this weekend. I know that the Nuggets are very actively trying to land him and they aren't alone.

Well the Nets should have no trouble putting together the worst offer, which Wallace is guaranteed to accept.

Fantastic!

Say what you will about Thorn, but he's got a real talent for staring down other GMs and making them agree to crappy mid-season deals. Everything else he does is pretty terrible (including scouting for the draft - I'm convinced that was all Stefanski), but if anyone can talk CDubs into a bad deal, it's him.

Can we please stop shortening the letter "W" into "Dub?" That ship has sailed. Or is sailing. Or something.

I say we let people post what they want. That's the only way I'm liberal.

Don't underestimate Miami's ability to package truly awful players.

That will be so cool, not because I know much about him (I don't). But my nephew's name is Kyle Lowrey (yes, we use the "e" in the last name). So the supply of jokes when he's over during a Nets game should be ample.

I can see us packaging Marcus, Boki and Magloire for Lowry and Miller.

True dat. Of course, EVERYONE knows that EVERY team is going for Mike Miller, so it's gonna be tough as hell. Of course, we would have Mags, Boki, Diop, and 1st rounders to give away. Maybe Miller for Mags+Boki, and a separate deal of Lowry for Diop?

Why do we need Lowry? I love him at PG but we have Harris Marcus and DA. And he can't play SG IMO.

Well, in most "rumors", DA would be gone, in one way or another. And Marcus sucks. He was extremely disappointing in the Toronto game, and has shown no progress from his rookie year.

Lowry would be great. He's actually better than Marcus and DA.

yeah, Thorn is going to go out and trade for an undersized, often injured 21 year old point guard when he has Harris and Williams, who doesnt suck by the way.

Please...

I would give up both first round picks for Miller. That's what they're there for.

See Carter, Vince; trade; draft picks.

In 2004-05, the Nets assembled eight picks over three years, which turned into:

Vince Carter (2 first rounders) Cliff Robinson (2 second rounders) Marcus Williams, Josh Boone, Hassan Adams, and Sean Williams

In 2007-08, the Nets assembled seven picks over three years, which turned into?

I don't really get to watch the games, and from what it sounds like, it wouldn't matter because Marcus doesn't play much anyway, but why do we now think Marcus doesn't suck?

He hit the rookie wall hard last year and still hasn't really recovered. I understand he's rehabbing injury, but I've heard he's just looked bad, and that includes the mental aspect (something that probably should be improving). Add on to that the whispers here and there that the team isn't thrilled with his work ethic.

He's naturally talented, but there's lots of talented guys who end up being mediocre or overrated basketball players. It seems like Marcus' best case right now is Jamaal Tinsley, and if that's the case, yeah, I think we should be in the market for a new point guard.

Plus, Lowry just seems like a good locker room guy, someone who'll push everyone else to work as hard as he does. That's something Marcus will never, ever be.

HE BROKE HIS FOOT...REPEAT, HE BROKE HIS FOOT.

Lowry lost most of last year, yet people are willing to suggest he is better than Marcus Williams???

Lowry is a college point guard with limited ability or stature to make it in the NBA.

Lowry "just seems to be a good locker room guy". Translation: you're guessing.

I agree that he's undersized, and the foot injury is spooky, but it's also a broken bone, and those tend to heal completely. He had an ACL tear in college, but that was his freshman year - he's had plenty of time since then and it hasn't come up. He's played every game this year (although without particularly impressive stats - looks like he's still recovering).

As far as the "locker room guy" thing goes, the idea was planted in my mind with this TrueHoop post:

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-26-1...-o-Licious.html

His draftexpress scouting report mentions his energy explicitly. Makes him sound very "Kenyon Martin"-esque.

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kyle-Lowry-608

I want him for the same reasons I want Joakim Noah - I want guys who care about winning more than personal stats.

I don't know if he'll be a better point guard than Marcus Williams, but I know he's boom or bust - if think that if he's not a star, he's not going to be a particularly productive player. I'm positive Lowry will be a better role player, if it comes to that.

Marcus's faults are hardly have to do with his physical condition, but rather they mostly deal with his head when he is playing. Most of the time he does piss-poor plays and plays atrocious defense.

...or simply no defense at all.

I'm surprised NI is a M Williams supporter. What is the evidence that Marcus is more that a decent college player? Again, I have watched 90% of the Nets games the past two years and I can remember only two outstanding performances. Against the Knicks in preseason and against the Suns (in extended garbage time). He was playing against extremely slack defense both times. Of course there was his final NCAA game against George Mason. That was impressive, not.

You forgot to mention his GREAT defensive prowess on Gerry McNamara in the Big East Tournament (which UConn lost).
