The writing is on the wall that we've seen the last of LaMarcus Aldridge in a Portland Trail Blazers uniform. Their trade of Nicolas Batum on Wednesday might not be the end of Portland's roster overhaul.

A Western Conference executive with knowledge of the Aldridge pursuit has told The Columbian that the free-agent has already informed the Blazers that he will not return to the Northwest.

Free-agency is set to begin on July 1 but the Blazers have wasted no time in re-tooling their roster for life after Aldridge.

Another league executive told The Columbian on Wednesday that the trade of Batum looked like "a rebuilding move," and league sources say that the Blazers are "not done" dealing.

Eric Gunderson has sources. Not doubting him, but more remarking at how the Oregonian is absolutely useless.

He screwed us wow he could have told us

Why does it say Western Conference executive instead of Blazers executive? Seems odd. How would a Spurs exec (for example) know that Aldridge told the Blazers he's gone?

Either way, I've moved on. If he wants to come back he can come back, otherwise, bring on the roster overhaul. I'm excited to see where we stand by the end of the offseason.

Team has won one playoff series since Aldridge was drafted in 2006

This isn't like Cleveland losing LeBron.

The Raptors lost Bosh (who imo as a #1 is better than Aldridge) and the Raptors have been pretty successful since

I know Gunderson personally--if there was one person beside Woj I would trust when it comes to reporting on the Blazers it would be him.
Don't doubt his credibility, but who is the exec? And I doubt anyone in the Blazer exects leak this because it would hinder how we make future moves. So if this is true, then I would seek tampering investigation

Honestly if he leaves I won't be as mad at him as I will be at myself. No one likes to be wrong. If he cuts tail and runs then I was wrong and that pisses me off.

And as good as Aldridge is, those 19ft jumpers are bullshit.

Giving him the LeBron treatment seems like overkill. HE JUST PLAYED THROUGH A LIGAMENT TEAR IN HIS THUMB FOR THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS.

If this is true, can we blame the Batum trade on LA as well? If he'd stayed, we wouldn't've traded Nic, I assume.

(I'm wondering if Casey knew this, hence his unusually frank comment about "flying back alone".)

(But then there's his comment about LA being impossible to read, so... who knows?)

You're an idiot.

Fuck. If Aldridge leaves I'm burning that mfers jersey I own
Same. Let's throw an LA jersey burning party at Moda once he leaves. At least get a sports center appearance out of it:blush:

Batum was traded because he's average at best and was being paid $12M per. The team was getting rid of him no matter what. His time here was done and his performance in the playoffs was the final nail in the coffin.

I think I could better understand and accept him leaving if he hadn't said all that stuff about wanting to stay and retire as the best Blazer ever.

Yea well, allot has changed since then. Once the first domino fell (Wes), the plans to keep this team together went by the wayside. Can't blame him for looking for greener pastures at this point.

Batum couldn't step up and be the #3 that Wes was. Even with Aldridge and Lillard getting all of the attention he still couldn't do shit. He still deferred and pretty much was his usual soft presence on the court.

He needed to go.

Aldridge leaving is not the end of the world, it really isn't. We have so much cap and roster flexibility. If you believe we have a good front office, then we're going to make it through this just fine.

Or you know....we could riot.

So are we hoping he goes to SA so that we can get Green in a trade or is it better just to keep the cap space and try to go for Green as a signing instead?

I would rather LMA goes to DAL than SA personally.

We cant even retain our own main guy how the hell are we going to attract top stars?

If LMA told Olshey he was not returning, I do not believe Olshey would have traded Batum.. That would leave 4 starting positions with question marks for next season instead of just the three.

Something does not smell right with all of these reporters using each other as a source. And the Western Conference executive could be a GM trying steal LMA away by planting misleading information.
