Spain vs. France about to start

Sergio looks like a smaller more Mexican Rick Ross!

They're playing again, this time in France. France leads at halftime 43-41, Batum with 17.

France blew it, largely thanks (again) to Sergio. They were leading in the 4th but Spain came from behind to win 85-84. Parker and Gasol leading scorers (unsurprisingly) and it looks like Batum didn't score a point after half time. Rudy had a key steal that led to the winning possession. Meanwhile the Spaniard currently on the Blazers' roster was a complete non-factor.

Sergio, since growing that beard, has become a force, is considered one of the best PGs playing in Europe. Claver is solid but you can't count on a player who's absolutely not a threat to score. Batum tends to disappear on offense, has ups and downs confidence-wise but man, I just love this player, his attitude, his smoothness, watched him in their first meeting and became nostalgic thinking we could theoraticaly have had a starting 5 of Lillard/Roy/Nic/LMA/Oden with Rudy, Sergio... The amount of talent on the Blazers since 2006 is (was) amazing.

Here's the end of the game:

Boob will be here soon to cite the usual stats on Sergio being a bad shooter. If only Sergio and Rudy had arrived here under a different coach. I feel sorry for referees who have to live out of their backpacks.

I'm in the "Nate ruined Sergio and Rudy" camp. Cue Maris. It took Sergio a while to find his groove again. If we had a healthy Roy and Oden, we'd never have 'qualified' to draft Lillard.

It would be nice to have them now. I missed the alley oops they would dish out on a constant basis.

Which has more pussies?

...and here's the end of the second Spain-France game (with Tony Parker this time):

A couple of comments:

* haven't heard the Alan Parsons Project since the Jordan Bulls days
* France have so little depth up front that they had Batum on Gasol at one point
* Sergio and Rudy manage one of their patented alley-oops in the closing minutes of a tight game
* Where's Rubio? Sergio really is more important to this Spain team right now. In fact, Rubio is at best 4th after Gasol, Rudy and Sergio. Even Llull seems more active and involved.
* France were just giving the ball to Parker and standing and watching at the end. I think they should've run it through Diaw more

With 4 seconds left, the scorekeeper gave France's basket to Spain. The final score says 85-84 Spain, and should be 86-83 France.

McMillan had no use for opportunistic shooters like Sergio and Rudy (and Crawford), shooting well only when they find themselves open. McMillan didn't know how to create those openings, so he demanded Roy-like shooting skill or else, the player looks like he can't shoot.

I miss Andre Miller's alley oops. And I bet Aldridge misses them too. I think a lot of his dropoff in shooting percentage last year was because he didn't have all those sure things. It's something that should be incorporated into the team's play again. Aldridge has great hands and coordination. It makes him a more dangerous player because the defender has to hedge to defend against the alley oop and gives Aldridge more room to operate.

Boo--you got me to watch the video, just to see if you were serious (which you obviously weren't). Fool me once...

If GB is not the worst team participating in Eurobasket then... well, they just will be. This is a team so bad that Joel Freeland would instantly be their best player. And it wouldn't be very close.
