Spartacus: Blood and Sand

I recently started watching, I just finished the 6th episode and I cant stop watching...

I am a huge fan of Clockwork Orange, and Kubrick in general. I mean, it is very hard to choose "best film" among the two mentioned and Full Metal Jacket and the Shining and Dr. Strangelove.

Aside from being a sci fan, the appeal of 2001 is the writer (Arthur C. Clark), the realism (Clark's writing makes you feel like you're there, the film captured that extremely well), the plot (if you get it, if not read the book!), and how it plays well 50 years later because the (classical) music doesn't date it. All these things are genius, IMO.

I'm a huge Scifi/horror fan but never really cared for 2001 even though most people thought it to be one of the best scifi films of all time.

I've read every Arthur C. Clark book, short stories and novels. It's quite amazing how he describes what it'd be like to really be there. Clark also invented the telecommunications satellite.

The finale episode shown this past weekend was awesome! I certainly hope Whitfield recovers and they continue the series.

No worries Sam Raimi works on the show and I hear he has already lined up a few replacements.

+1

I just watched the entire season in 3 days, just watched the last one before I head off to work, love this show.

Dude, prequels, with more awesome hottie tits, and that crazy over the top blood spray = ownage.

And how can you not love the first episode, you get a full on spread of illithya nude baby, damn shes hot!

The actor who plays Spartacus cancer has returned so he has decided to leave the show.

Oddly enough he has the same cancer as PA.

Damn so now it's just the prequel? No plans for a second season? To be completely honest, he could be replaced. I mean he was just a model before this!

...not sure if I like how they went back in time :dunno: Hopefully this is only temporary for Season 2, explaining a little bit more of the back-story, and then leaping to the future where Season 1 left off!

They went back in time this season because the actor who played Spartacus got cancer and they were trying to give him time to get well. He's not getting better so they have finally found a new actor to play Spartacus and Season 3 will resume where Season 1 left off.

Damn that sucks. Who is the new actor?

*bump* I've got to keep this on the first page so I know where to view the episodes I've missed.

Australian actor Liam McIntyre has been cast as the Thracian warrior.

The decision comes after a lengthy and difficult process to find a new lead on the cult hit after star Andy Whitfield had to depart the show to resume treatment for cancer. Earlier this month, Starz decided to move forward with a second season as the number of contenders for the role narrowed.

“Since no one can really replace Andy, we realized that we should instead find an actor who can truly lead ‘Spartacus’ forward,” said Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht in a statement. “It was important to us to have Andy endorse the idea of recasting this part, which he did in the same heroic manner that he’s dealt with his whole ordeal. And that, coupled with our fortune in finding a young actor with the gladiator credentials and the acting ability of Liam, makes it easier for us to keep this hit franchise going.”

All the episodes are available on Netflix, too.
