What are the ethical issues exactly? He's not president anymore, he has no power. No one is buying his book to curry favor with the government.

Arguably, it is in the public interest for him to write books about his time in office. It's a lot less repugnant than becoming a lobbyist or the CEO of a defense contractor or something like that.

Trump is in deep deep trouble. He is in so much trouble that I believe that his election loss is a forgone conclusion. And here's the kicker, he's going to drag down a lot of Republicans along with him. It's kind of like how Hitler and Mussolini dragged their countries down with them.

Repugnant? I dont know questionable ethically yes. Why would you assume an ex politician who’s still politically vocal has no favors to call in, and has no sway, and no one would find it beneficial to their cause to get him on their side. Seems really naive to think well he’s not a president anymore so he’s got 0 power. He’s got a lot more power as an ex president than like 99% of the people on the planet...

This has the results of that SEC action. It's interesting, but my read is that Pelosi was more a victim than a perpetrator. He's definitely guilty of not asking enough questions and not paying enough attention, but the real dirty deeds were done by others and he was mostly a famous name that the scammers used to raise money for themselves.

How so the dude still has secret service on him, he's getting paid to give speeches just on his opinions (99% of people don't even get that), he had 8 years to create relationships with law-makers, very few people get to do that from the position of being the commander in chief. I'd say his position is a lot better than most peoples...

Sure, that might have happened. And if you find evidence that it did, I'll be happy to have him thrown in jail.

Maybe ex-presidents should be sent to a mountaintop monastery to live out their days, in order to avoid any possibility of corruption?

Or we could just execute them when they leave office?

How much weight do all the other ex-POTUS's have? Obama may bash Trump, so what?.. but he's yet to support any of the Dem candidates...and if he did, say if he endorsed Gabbard, I seriously doubt it would matter.

So does George W Bush, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter. Ex presidents all get secret service protection for life, many people still want to hear what they say, and most write books. Obama didn't invent this.

But if you can't defend Trump, make up shit about Obama, Pelosi, Clinton, my cat...

I really don’t care what ex presidents get or do when they leave. I think the optics are realllll bad when current politicians have their children in either high paying or powerful jobs unless they clearly are qualified for it. So no, not you Hunter Biden. Not you Ivanka and Jared. Go back and play with daddy’s other businesses.

I mean you asked who he was giving speeches too... You asked how they give him any more power than we have too. Think about it a minute, if TV, Propaganda, "speeches", all that had no benefits, no one would do it, no one would spend all that money on it wasn't worth it to some extent.

Jesus, when was the last time any ex-POTUS had enough juice to sway an election? The people who go to hear Obama speak already have their minds made up anyway...and I doubt any Trump followers go to hear him speak.

Obama has one vote and I have one vote...seems pretty even to me. And the "99%" you spoke of have a lot more power than Obama.
 
Trump is scumbag who was caught over and over doing immoral and illegal acts as president, yet his supporters turn a blind eye to all his repugnant actions. However, they jump on the blame-a-liberal bandwagon before there is even a thread of evidence of impropriety. Disgusting. I'm tired of people making excuses for Trump supporters. They are vile! They don't deserve respect.

I never said he was trying to sway an election though, or that he could. Garnering favors, and having powerful friends who make laws seems like enough of a benefit to me.
