Bosh headed to Western Conference?

From what I understand, Chris Bosh is looking for a bigger market to expand his exposure as one of the top players in the NBA. The Raptors will sit down with him this summer to see if he has any interest in signing an extension beyond 2010 or if he plans to take a dip in the free agency pool. Smart money says he wants to swim and the Raps will then begin to consider trades. A few NBA executives that I spoke with say Bryan Colangelo, unlike some GMs, isn't afraid to make a big deal and has the experience (see: Stephon Marbury trade) and confidence to make a move of that scale. But he would likely not want to trade within his own division and instead look to the Western Conference, where teams such as Golden State, Portland and Dallas would look to get involved.

We're not getting Bosh. LMA is better than Bosh come next season.

How can somebody say in the same paragraph "looking for a bigger market" and then mention Portland as a possible destination? That makes my brain hurt.

Does not mean we are trying to get Bosh. It means we could be a part of the deal.
 
I could see Dallas. Bosh is a homeboy. Dallas is a bigger market.
 
A three-way where we acquire Bosh and send him to New Jersey for Harris. Without dealing Roy, Aldridge, Oden or Batum.

I don't get it. Toronto is one of the biggest markets in the league.

They don't get any exposure in the NBA media, but that's because the Raps suck, not because they're isolated from other teams geographically (ie., in Canada).

Yeah, lets get another teams best player and give them our 5th best.
 
I don't see the value of Bosh to this team with the way that Aldridge has been playing as of late. What else would we have to give up?

Would you consider it if it were Bosh for LMA straight up?

Toronto almost never gets games on national TV, because Canadian viewing households don't' count in US TV ratings. And ratings determine what the networks can charge for ads.

So, while Toronto may have a much larger population than Portland, Bosh would get a lot more national TV exposure playing in Portland - especially since the Blazers will be going deep in the play-offs for the next 10+ seasons and Toronto is back in the lottery. This would increase his endorsement potential.

Still, Portland doesn't have a need for Bosh. I'd rather keep Aldridge. If Portland does get involved in any Bosh trade, it will be as one party in a 3 (or more) team deal.

I'd want permission to talk to Bosh first and see whether he'd be happy in Portland and whether he'd be prepared to sign a max contract extension in 2010.

If so, I'd do the deal. If he wasn't sure or if Toronto didn't grant that permission, then I wouldn't.

Why the hell would Toronto do that? If they dump Bosh, they are in total rebuilding mode. You don't rebuild around a 36-year old. Plus, they'd have to re-sign Kidd at about 4x what he's worth to make the salaries match. Trading a 25-year old big for a 36-year old small makes absolutely no sense.

If toronto is willing to take a couple of our bottom players and Bosh is willing to play 10-15 mins off the bench I'm all for it!
