What the hell has been happening? Since Covid hit, sports cards have been going crazy.

Kobe Bryant, shaq, iverson,kg. All pretty good.

Made me sad to see nobody cares about Alonzo Mourning rookie cards anymore. He was such a stud in his prime.

I went to 5 stores today looking for packs of cards and everyone is sold out. Even had two people call a store i was at asking about sports card while i was there.

What is happening? Why the craze?

i need to sell mine bad. I have rare shaq rookie cards.

My dad owns a MJ 86 rookie card. It’s supposed to be mine since I’m the only basketball fan but now the family wants to sell it and share the profit.

it’s not graded but it went straight to a case from the box

I'll give you 20 dogecoin for it.

All collectibles are going crazy. Pokemon cards are nuts also. I spent my youth collecting a lot of sports cards and I have most of my collection at PSA right now getting graded. Ill share the results of the good ones as they come in but PSA takes forever right now due to their backlog and recent popularity in the hobby. I did get my first two cards back last week and it was very unsatisfying though, I have a Terry Porter and a Jerome Kersey autographed 1989 hoops card. I know they are authentic because I got them myself at a basketball camp I went to when I was a kid. PSA couldnt authenticate either though and charged me $100 just to ship them back with a big question mark. Other than that I have a lot of pre 1990 basketball cards, I kept them all in perfect condition but Im finding out that centering of the picture is the hard part. When I was a kid I mostly looked for perfect condition, now to get a Gem Mint 10 the centering for old cards is the hard part.

Let me know how the grading goes. I have some iverson, kobe, jason kidd, shaq etc. Rookie cards i'm thinking of grading. Curious if it is even worth it.

the hard part so far was making an honest assessment of their value to price out the correct insurance for shipping and grading costs. Most people over value their collection and its easy to do. I bought a $10 centering tool on amazon that helped with that. I spent hours on that though because if you assume its a grade 10 and it comes in at a 8 or 9 then you could end up paying as much to grade it as its worth, but you dont want to undervalue it because you want it properly insured though out the process.

Can you please link the amazon tool you bought.

You dont find the same markups in the stores? I missed which ones exactly you are looking for.
Nah. Retail stores sell them sometimes. NFL panini donruss optic and NBA panini topps. I went back out to another store and got some mlb topps boxes for baseball but didn't pull anything. Just wanted the thrill again of opening packs.

I spent every free penny I had on sports cards until I was about 14. At my parents house I have box upon box, binders, complete sets, higher end cards in hard cases. High end rookies from the 80’s and 90’s in baseball. I ended up buying a lot on EBay.

Someday I’m going to go over there and sort through them and sell them off on EBay. Who knows I might get a decent chunk of change.

Went to 6 stores this morning looking for boxes. Everyone was sold out.

Buy online. Most card shops have folded. Online retail is big.

Portland used to have card shops on every corner back in the day.

I used to go to a shop ran by an older guy on 122 and Stark area. He had one of the best inventories I had seen.

when i say i bought s box i meant unopened. I get it. The thrill is real. Is was way fun to unwrap a griffey jr rookie upperdeck and a few frank Thomas leafs.

I went there too. I know one of the owners of a card shop in Portland. I can get some boxes if I want, but i'm an accountant so like spending retail in store if possible. The hunt to find some is fun too.

The place on 122nd and stark was baseball cards and more. We used to go to hoopla off 122nd in the parkrose area too. And diamond field off 181st and divison. Went to sports cars shows a lot as a kid too. Just getting back into the hobby.

There was another good one down by the Lloyd center on sandy. I think

My favorite pull was a David Robinson rookie card. Once I pulled that, he became my favorite player. Then I followed the Spurs as my second favorite team and loved Dennis Rodman and Tim Duncan too.

my brother and i each got a bock of 89 upperdeck for xmas of 90’. It was lal about the griffey jr rookie card living up in Seattle right? So we open them one by one together and bam. He gets one in like his third pack. I get through my box and not one
But he still has a few packs left and in his last pack he got two of them in one pack! I remember i was soooo pissed for the longest time. LOL!
