It's a release. Unfortunately, people without money or a lot of other things going for them in life put an enormous amount of their emotional investment in sports, and when it goes badly or well, it causes a lot of emotional release. As has been true of poorer, less educated people for millennia, that release is often violent in nature.

And it bears noting that this isn't restricted to non-whites by any means. The greatest number of domestic abuse crimes occur on football Sundays, because there are a lot of men angry that their teams lost and looking to take out their frustration on someone. And many of those frustrated men are poor and white.

Another aspect happening, IMO, is that this socioemotional (not sure if I just made up a word there) release, when shared by a large group, turns from a simple display of exultation, to an (unconscious?) violent protest of suppression and built-up angst.

You misunderstand me. Race is only involved, within the borders of the United States for what we're talking about, because the lower-income urban centers of major metropolitan cities are populated with a greater concentration of minorities. And this isn't because non-white skinned people are more apt to genetically be poorer (make decisions that keep them impoverished) than whites. It's because of decades of white-skinned groups prospering at the cost of minority groups.
