What do you guys feel about us trading for Nash? I would personally be 100% in favor of it and would trade anyone but Wallace, Aldridge, or Oden to make it happen. Just like Dirk and Kidd, Nash is an MVP-level player who still has a title run left in him. I vote YES.

Steve Nash is only 37. I'd say he's got 3-5 years* left in him. His stats are still impressive and he doesn't rely on ridiculous athleticism, just running, shooting, and passing. His defense isn't great but that's why we have Mathews, Batum, Wallace, Oden, Camby, and Aldridge to back him up. Besides, NBA PG's are hard to defend so it's not like there are very many PG's who can shut another PG down. Luke Ridnour did well with Nate, so I think Nash would too.

The question is, where does he want to go? If he wants to win, he needs to leave PHX. And the only winning teams in need of a PG are the LA Lakers and the Portland Trailblazers. Nash has expressed interest in filmmaking, so LA would be better for that. But if it means anything, Portland is only 4-5 hours from his home in BC.


*FYI, John Stockton played until he was 40 and still retained impressive stats. He definitely could've played until 42 years.

If Nash asks for a trade they'll trade him, If Nash doesn't ask I think Nash will retire a Sun. Nash seems like to much of a class act to ask for a trade so doubt he is going anywhere.

5 years too late? Nash was in the WCF just last year. This season, his numbers were about the same as when he won his first MVP Award.

Nash is still a 15/11 guy that shoots nearly 49/39/92. With Wallace, Aldridge, and Oden to pass to, we could jump right into the WCF next year where Nash has been three times and he will be very hungry to close the deal. I would jump for joy if we got him. Then bring Jimmer off the bench. Or Barbosa who is available, yes?

So what exactly are we hoping for by trading for a 38 year old point guard? Is he the missing piece to a championship run? I don't think so. The only kind of team that should be making a hard run for Nash, is an organization that is otherwise primed for a deep run, but they need just a little more help -- that doesn't describe the Blazers at all.

@KingSpeed: I'll agree he's a better player today than is Miller. The cost to get him is 10.3 Million in salaries and incentive!!! Suns are rebuilding. Yes, they may want Miller's un-guaranteed contract for expiring, but we also have to give up Nicolas, Rudy, or other asset to get the additional $ figure. I don't think PHX has incentive to make Nash for Miller/Rudy trade. I think it would have to be Nic or future 1st. That's pretty big for your starting guard in 2012-13 at age 39 and for him to play one or two years for you. Then, you've got a retired former MVP, and no picks or young player.

I just don't think its worth making the deal for a chance at a title for only 1 year. I'd rather make a move for a younger, less expensive guy - and build into something for a run of 3-4 years.

I think this is the type of trade we should look at mid season before the trade deadline. Right now there are too many unknowns with our team. Will Oden come back healthy? Will Roy be able to contribute as an above average NBA player for limited minutes or will he hurt the team? Will Batum or Wesley progress like LaMarcus or the path of Rudy? If a number of variables all go our way its possible we could be a dark horse contender next season. I don’t think it’s likely, but it’s definitely possible.

Now if we are a borderline contender next year adding Nash makes a ton of sense, even if we have to give up a young future asset. At that point we can make a run for Nash. Give Phoenix a few months of the season to see them fall out of the playoff chase and the organization will be more apt to begin rebuilding. But if we are still a few pieces away from contending then it makes no sense to try and add Nash.

I think ANY time you have a chance at a title, you take it. I'm not greedy. Dont need to think dynasty right now. Nash still has 3 years left, in my opinion, but even if we legitimately challenged for a title and then he retired, I'd take it. I'm sick of losing in the first round. Nash-Crash-Aldridge would have as good a chance as any team in the West to reach the NBA Finals next year. We would be fun to watch, we'd finally have a guy who could get our big guys easy baskets AND could make a shots himself at a high rate. He'd be hungry as hell. That is what we need right now.

Seve Nash to Portland would be a good thing for me if it didn't cost too much for an older PG. I think a lot has to do with what Portland is looking to do, if they can make something happen in the draft by moving up for a young PG then I'm all for it. Nash has not said he wants to leave the Suns has he? Again, I'd take Nash if the price was right.\\

Nash, Matthews, Wallace, Aldridge, Oden would be a fun line up.
