The ripping off of America.

I think you and I agree on a lot of stuff politically. I definitely see and hate that this bill gives so much money to our corporate overlords... I also understand and appreciate the 'bone' they're throwing to people who are in crisis financially right now. I hate that it's like they'll give people a shiny coin and take their wallets at the same time.

I don't trust at all that a "bill" is going to make it through the house / senate / president without screwing us over. So, I'm a little torn on this, at "least" it gives people something... It's just a shame it has to happen at the expense of those same people. Immediate relief for those in need is good even if short-sighted...

I couldn't get anyone to agree that Trump getting rid of our post office subsidizing cheap chinese goods being shipped here for less than I can send something to AZ was a good idea.

Now these assholes want us to magically make millions of chinese made items appear instantly.

Imagine someone like me coming home tonight and my wife says we have no food. Should I scream at her that she should grow a garden and raise some chickens and I want it by tomorrow?
That's what they did during the depression and WWII. My mother continued the habit and had a backyard vegetable garden throughout her life. So did the rest of my aunts and uncles on both sides of my family.

Hmm. This would appear to mean that if this social distancing stuff continues much longer, survival of the fittest will lead to much longer penises.
Confucius say "Man and woman who sleep in separate beds, stretching things a little too far."

Gotta love evolution

It's a bailout for corporations and a raise for congress, but it is also a short term help to those who need it. Long term though...ouch

I understand, I think. I can't just be a little torn myself. Both parties just gave away trillions of dollars to corporate America during a pandemic, in a relief bill meant for America and Americans. They left out 70 million of the poorest Americans in this bill to give away money to corporations. That is shameful and shows where their priorities lie. They tell America that we can't have health care for all, money for schools, etc., etc., and then they can turn around and rip off America like this. Every single one of those traitors should be in jail right now.

Yup... I just don't think the American people will ever see a bill come through that really helps them that doesn't rip them off in the process... So part of me is like well I guess, it was nice they gave people something...

am I being too cynical by beings suspicious of that "131 billion for other" category?

That's Trumps slush fund and congress's pay raise

Yeah, they gave us a bandaid....but it's better than nothing. Meanwhile we the American people are being asked once again to bail out corporations. I thought part of capitalism was to let dying companies die. How socialist of us to give them the heimlich free of charge.

I agree, they fail then go away, though I do think small businesses need help, the “failure” really isnt any thing they did.

Small business are the heart of this country not corporations. They needed bailed out not Airlines or Amazon or Banks, etc.

I was upset when we bailed out GM and Im a devout Chevy dude from way back. I just thought that much of their problem was fiscal irresponsibility. I have now changed my take to a large degree because they have paid it back with interest and there were jobs saved. Many small business depend on business from larger companies like GM, Amazon etc. The new bill does help small business with employees and forgiven loans to help stay afloat till this thing passes. Its not one that I like but there had to be give and take to get something done. Thats the way congress is supposed to work. Now the States need to step up, because if they can waste tax payers dollars on stocked piled misc. inventory to hit budgetary numbers for new fiscal year budgets, they can tap into the general for assistance where needed.

Is the pay still based on 2018 income? That screws me since I was working then, retired now, income half what it was.

Yes unless you have already filed this years taxes then it will be based on 2019.

I was in an industry that did a fair amount of business with Freightliner as they were at one time one of the biggest manufacturers in the state and especially the Portland metro area and many companies did business with and for them. The joke that use to go around is that Freightliner sneezes and hundreds of small businesses would catch cold that relied on Freightliner manuufacuring trucks and for them to buy parts from these small businesses that solely relied on that business. Many would go out of business when Freightliner went through down times. It's important to keep the small businesses going but it is also improtant to make sure the larger corporations are kept afloat as the trickle down effect could be very devastating.

Joy-Ann Reid suggested the oversight panel. From the Senate, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. From the House, Adam Schiff, Val Deming and Katie Porter. Unlikely to get those five but it would be a kick ass oversight group for sure.

This is it in a nutshell.
Not really, that bill was like 5% socialism and like 75% crony capitalist crap and like 20% “other”.

Every society has its forms of, “socialism” and capitalism though, its just trying to find the right balance. In the US we tend to always just get the worst forms of both.
