Stromile Swift?

I know the Knicks don't exactly have the cap flexibility this offseason to go out and get a big time player, but one diamond in the rough who might be there for the Knicks is Stromile Swift. Unless a team like Atlanta or Houston offers Swift big dollars this offseason, he could have to settle for the MLE. Let's face it, he was a huge prospect out of college, but he hasn't exactly done much in the NBA, averaging only 10.1 ppg and 4.6 rpg last season. At MLE, Swift would be one hell of a steal for the Knicks though.

What does everyone else think about Stromile Swift potentially being the new starting Center for the New York Knicks?

With the Knicks 5 spot the way it is now, anyone would be good for them. Swift is an athletic freak with a pretty good wingspan which is why he is also an Isiah Thomas kind of player. Although undersized, Swift?s athleticism makes up for that and playing in the East he can definitely get away with his size. Swift would absolutely be a steal for the MLE and would add a ton of excitement in the garden. I wonder what type of player he could turn into if he worked out with Mark Aguirre.

Swift would be a nice fit for a Raymond Felton led Knicks team...However for a Knicks team led by Stephon Marbury the fits bad, Swift can't play in a half court offense and Marbury doesn't run the break. Swift is a talented player, he can block shots, rebound, run , and dunk. His skill set would be nice for a fast break offense, he has pretty much the same skill set as the only player picked before him in the draft, Kenyon Martin, Martin with the fast break Nets was an all-star and clearly not the same with the half court Nuggets. Martin's post game is even better that Swift's. If we draft Felton than Swift is a good move, wiht Marbury I don't like it though.

Yeh, Marbury needs to be surrounder by shooters, Swift isn't really that type of guy that would fit our offense, led by a half court PG like Marbury, who can create plays a million ways in the half court. Very limited in the full court, where a player like Swift can use his talents on a team who runs full court (Nets, Pistons, Wizards, Suns)

I doubt stromile will get MLE. Thats Horrible for him. He is still young and still could develop. And he shouldn't want to come to New York. There are many teams with cap out there and he is bound to get a big contract.

As for the Knicks, they do need a big man, but the cap is horrible. They need to make a bunch of trades. They also need the shooters like you have said. Stromile would help, but wouldn't solve the problem.

Swift will get overpaid this summer like most big's who can jump.

He will get the kind of contract Memo Okur got last year. 50 million.

I expect he will go to Atlanta.

The Nuggets have been a fast break team ever since Carmelo and Andre came to the Nuggets.

Anyways, regarding Swift, I'm sure he will get overpaid this summer (if there is a new CBA) like an Adonal Foyle/Mehmet Okur type contract.

Stro is the type of player who is going to play the same way wherever he goes. Agressive and solid, he is the perfect player for every team in the NBA in my opinion. He is a big who comes out and plays defense and can get you garbage points as well, the best thing about him is he brings some muc henergy off the bench. Thats why I think the Knicks should just keep Thomas as the starting C and just bring Stro and JYD off the bench, that would be a very strong and energized second two.

We already have a player that was supposed to do big things because of his "potential" and ended up as a disappointment. We really dont need another one. Pass on Swift.

At least he is a center.

, which New York clearly lacks.

Anyway, I believe Stro never got huge minutes as he was always playing behind Gasol and Wright was starting at Center. I think he will get more money than the MLE so NY can't afford him at this point in time.

I like Swift in New York he can become a much better defender with us for the reason that the East is weak, he can become and play the role that Camby had in the 1999 playoffs,coming solid off the bench.But to make this deal the knicks will need to get rid some of players like Taylor,Butler,Hardaway,to get him some Minutes I don't include Malik Rose for the reason that we need he's leadership,defensive and championship skills in our team.

I don't think East is weak anymore guys, Pistons won the championship l;ast year, and Hawks and Bucks have the top 2 picks, so its only going to get better, especially with young stars like Wade and Lebron

I agree 100%. I wouldn't be very excited to get him anyway, not too many rebounds (why get another athlete who isn't a very good rebounder?) and he isn't the smartest player in the league. I wish he'd put forth more effort in learning the game and improving his play, but he doesn't have to do this to make big bucks - he's an athletic monster, he's boung to land 50 million or so.

I agree that Swift isn't a very smart guy lol, however to say that he is another athlete who isn't a good rebounder. He averaged 4.6 rebounds per game in 21 minutes per game, which isn't shabby.

If he averaged 30-35 minutes per game he could easily average 7 or 8 boards a game, which is good.
