IP addresses aren't as useful in tracking you down and killing you as you seem to think.
There are three possibilities:
1) Your IP address is registered to you personally (pretty rare, for an individual)
2) You are posting from work and your IP address is registered to your employer (less rare).
3) Your IP address is registered to your Internet service provider (the vast majority of cases).
In the first case, your IP address might tell someone exactly who you are. In the second case, someone could learn where you work but not who you are. In the third case, they can learn what ISP you use, but nothing else.
Unless, of course, they also have access to the ISP's records. In that case, they could identify the account owner, which would likely be you or a family member or your employer.
In summary, you need to be less afraid of mods, and more afraid of your ISP.
